Drive mode selector and gas consumption
Drive mode selector and gas consumption
So I recently purchased a 2016 and i noticed recently that my drive mode selector doesn't work and neither does the **** next to it. Also I own a 350z and this is my 2nd maxima but compared to those cars I feel like this one uses way more gas and only has 30k miles. I get about 325 miles on a full tank avg 25mpg. Anyone have advice on these issues?
This is not a light car, and having a normally aspirated 3.5 liter engine drives nicely, but requires fuel.
Because of the weight (3600 lbs) and power of this car, city driving should get between 16 and 22 MPG, mixed stop and go driving should get between 20 and 24 MPG, with suburban driving getting around 24 to 26 MPG. But open interstate is where this car shines. I almost always get 30 or more on open interstate trips. That is really good efficiency for a 100 HP normally aspirated engine in a 3600 lb car.

Are you referring to the Normal and Sport mode buttons? And the **** ABOVE those two?
25 MPG is not bad as long as it is not all interstate.
That could only happen in Texas (or great plains). I have always enjoyed driving in Texas, because the roads are wide, mostly level, and well-constructed. I can nurse my car and can reach 33 on LEVEL interstates (like in Texas), but more like 31 or 32 on the up-and-down interstates I often drive on. Based on perusing fuel posts here, I think you may be in a very small minority getting 28 in heavy urban mixed. You must have a very careful foot on the pedal. I admit my foot is not always careful.

I drive 30 miles to work on surface roads, a 55 MPH road with several red lights, and a 65 mph highway. I often face congestion, and still average 27-28 on those trips. My Passat got better mileage, but it's 5 cylinder inline engine just didn't perform like this Maxima engine.
I love Mad Max
Unless on the interstate I am a pretty "assertive" driver. I have noticed that due to the gearing, 2k rpm is a pretty important point to keep in mind. In Texas we have interstates with speed limits up to 85 MPH. I get over 33 MPG when I drive at 70-75. At 80 my MPH drops to 31 or 30. At 85 I am usually at 28.
