Driving in the heavy snow

Many of us have been hit hard with late winter snows in the Midwest and Eastern states. We happened to be caught in northern Wisconsin during an 11 inch snow blast. This was the first real heavy snow the Plat Max had been driven in for a 250 mile trek back to Illiniois. We made it home but I think the 2016 Maxima is not the greatest handling car in heavy snow and ice conditions.
Snow and ice grooves in the road made the 2016 very squirrely. We have 17000 miles on the tires and it was very difficult to get started from a stop in what was then about 7 inches of snow and ice in 17 degree conditions. I was kind of surprised since my old 2010 Max Premium seemed to be a better handler in the same type of road snow. it could be the Michelin tires I had on the 2010 that helped make it that way.

With the wrong or old tires, I'd imagine any car will handle like crap in those kinds of conditions. Can't really blame the car outright...

Obviously if your drive in snow the car needs snow tires or "winter" tires as some say these days. I have a set of Michelin X-Ice 3 on 18inch 2012 Maxima OEM rims. Routinely drive in hard pack, slush, whatever @ 60 mph max. The only limiting factor is the height of the car.

Occasionally one can drive near new OEM "all seasons" fast in snow, but steering and braking pretty well sucks. Although, I had lots of practice in the olden days on vintage tires.
