Black Soot on Tailpipe
Black Soot on Tailpipe
Hello,
I have a Maxima SR and it has about 1,000 miles on it. Already, I notice a large amount of black soot on the tailpipes. I have been driving carefully without exceeding 3K rpm and I don't notice this issue on my other higher mileage Nissans. Would this be normal on a new car? I have used premium fuel and it runs great. Hmm..

Also, once the engine is broken in well, say between 5 and 10k miles the soot should become less. New engines tend to use a little more oil until the rings seat in the cylinder bores. You probably won't notice oil usage on the dipstick but the tail pipes, especially chromed tips, are telltale in a new break in.
