The age-old question....harness or no harness for HID install?

Lots of discussions on the web about this debate. I'd like your opinion/experience particular to the 8th gen, and the plus/minus of leaving out or including the harness. Anyone install HIDs and get crap from the dealer about voiding the warranty?

Don't need it. What you need a true hid system updated for 2016+ can Bus Ballasts with 35 watts, tested and proven to work great. The only kit that I use for my installations is from vanquishauto.com

They have many options there but this is your kit. Please post reviews and pictures if you get it.

edit:
Hey Calabs, I didn't realize it was you who posted, did you get your kit already?

you shoulnd't have any problems installing hids on the maxima with the dealer and there is nothing to modify so it should be fine.

the point of the harness is protect to you from over current, and always drawing full power from battery. a good harness has thicker gauge than oem. make sure, though, the fuse in -series is for your kit.
over current does not always happen, but when it does, the additional protection is good to have. the factory wiring could get hot.

as mentioned above, it is not really needed, but it is recommended by most hid retailers.

Wire gauge in stock harness

Thanks for the comments. Keep those cards and letters coming!!

Does anyone know the wire gauge in the stock harness for the headlights? Most quality kits use 14g, which I assume is not the gauge used by Nissan (but I could be wrong).

imo, 14awg is too big. probably thick insulation?? 20-18awg, maybe.
from the other nissans i did splice, it seems 24-20 awg is factory for the lights.
but don't quote me on that one.

Now there's an argument FOR using a relay harness! Particularly since the 8th gen was not designed for HID.

Does anyone know of a good ground connection under the hood on the battery side (other than the negative battery terminal)?
