Consensus on aftermarket y pipe

Changing the oil yesterday I got a good look at the 2016 SR stock ypipe. It "looks" restrictive and worth replacing with a Racingline Y Pipe. I know a few people have replaced theirs but it doesn't seem like the majority bother with it.

So I gotta ask: does replacing the stock ypipe yield ANY hp gain or alter the powerband feel at all or is it just a sound mod much like an axle back or intake on the 16+?

I'm so glad you started this thread. This a mod that I want to do also but, not sure if it's worth the money if their is no real gains from it. Hopefully some people that have this done can offer some input.

I have a 2007 Altima SE with the V-6 3.5. A couple of years ago, I put a Racingline Y pipe on it.

Results:

1. Just a little louder sound from the exhaust, no rumble, no drone.
2. I honestly can not tell a difference in performance, nor any difference in gas mileage.

Would I get one for my wife's Maxima? No.

I understand some are having problems ordering from Racingline...they may have closed up.

Good info, thanks. I'd like to hear more but that was my assumption on replacing just the ypipe. Admittedly, I would like a bit more grumble out of the exhaust but the winters here are so harsh on cars I will not be replacing my stock mufflers/tips until I need to. The ypipe seems like a good option even if there are no gains.

My SR 16 has installed a Racingline Y pipe along with K&N Intake.....I do feel a better engine/tranny performance and the same sound described by Rick. The same brands set up along with a Nismo cat back was installed in my former 2010 Altima SR....my father-in law smiles each time starts the Altima engine.
I hope to install a better cat back than OEM to gain a few ponies....

Thanks. What do you feel gave you more engine rumble; ypipe or intake?

I think the combination of both exhaust and y pipe is what would be best for performance. It's my plan to do this in a few weeks

Personally, hard to say because I installed both at the same time. But my point is that each one (separately) will give almost the same sound quality.

My former Altima (same engine than Maxima´s) was taken to the dynamometer shop, and the engine gained (with Y pipe & intake) about 14 or 15 HPs, I guess.....(I lost the paper)

The best exhaust sound is obtained with a cat back. I've understood that a good sound is obtained with a 21 inch resonator (in a 3.5 l engine ) alone too.

ADD: Motordyne sells the Y pipe and the cat back.....but the site do not state the HP gains with the combo....

What do you guys think would be better the racingline y-pipe which seems to be considerably cheaper or the motordyne y-pipe?

I can'y speak for the RacingLine Y pipe but i can tell you that the Motordyne pipe sounds awesome and i can personally feel the gain/release of power. I had installed spacers on my front wheels and they would no longer spin when accelerating , after the Y pipe they screech and spin.

niceee! then I guess I'll get the motordyne y-pipe. It seems to be made out of stainless steel as opposed to the racingline one. ALso the motordyne seems to be targeted for the 8th gen. As of now I have the Stillen exhaust which i don't want to get rid of so I'm just going to buy the ypipe from motordyne hopefully it works out. I just wish motordyne showed the hp gains from it.
