Nissan recalling millions of vehicles in japan

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Quality control is Nissans downfall. I can only imagine what slips through the cracks in Tennessee

What does that mean for the Nissan Maxima i just bought? How do we know what vehicles are being recalled for inspection?

Airbag issues have been a big problem for many of the Japanese auto makers, even (and most notably) Honda. Sometimes it's the component manufacturers fault when it comes to specialty equipment like that.

While quality is a concern, I don't think we need to fear that we've sunk to Fiat or Dodge quality levels just yet

You should register your car with Nissan if you didn't buy at a Nissan dealer. You'll probably get an email about it or actual mail if your car is affected. Most car companies are pretty good about letting you know if you need to handle a recall. Your service tech no doubt will tell you too , next time you bring it in for routine maintenance.

Was the Nissan Maxima you just bought made in Japan?

If your VIN # starts with a J it's made in Japan. Maximas have been made in the US starting with the 2004 model year. In other words this shouldn't affect you unless a part was imported and didn't meet some important safety check.

I do all maintanace my self. Sorry but I don't trust dealers to change a light bulb lol. My car is still getting upgrades at the paint shop. Before I take delivery of the car I will have the dealer run the VIN code. Thanks

Why will you have the dealer run the VIN? Your Maxima was not made in Japan, as Nissan does not manufacture the Maxima in Japan. Most pre-2003 Maximas were built in Oppama, Japan, until the current North American Maximas started being assembled in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The only North American market vehicles Nissan manufactures in Japan are the Leaf, Rogue SUV, and the 370Z and GTR.

370 Z's and GTR's are made in Japan as well.
