Sonar help while parking in drive?

Check out 3:20 mark here

My car has never done that once and I have never seen that until the video. Is it a certain setting or something you have to enable?

My SL does that and pitches a fit when I pull into garage, with corners lighting up as they approach stuff stacked up around the car. I believe you can activate this from driver screen menu. Your's is probably <off>. Heck, this is the basis for your entire collision-avoidance system.

Can you point me to where these settings might be? I swear I thought everything was on from the factory! Just to be more clear. I see this in Reverse but have never it when in Drive like in that video.

Fatties - I went to owner's manual (mine is SL) and I could not find where this feature could be turned on and off. Just Forward Emergency Braking, Cross Traffic Alert, I think.

Here's what I did extract for you from the manual:

SYSTEM OPERATION
The system informs with a visual and audible alert
of front obstacles when the shift lever is in the D
(Drive) position and both front and rear obstacles
when the shift lever is in the R (Reverse) position.

The system is deactivated at speeds above
6 mph (10 km/h). It is reactivated at lower
speeds.
The intermittent tone will stop after 3 seconds
when an obstacle is detected by only the corner
sensor and the distance does not change. The
tone will stop when the obstacle get away from
the vehicle.
When the object is detected, the indicator
(green) appears and blinks and the tone sounds
intermittently. When the vehicle moves closer to
the object, the color of the indicator turns yellow
and the rate of the blinking increase. When the
vehicle is very close to the object, the indicator
stops blinking and turns red, and the tone sounds
continuously.
When the corner of the vehicle moves closer to
an object, the corner sonar indicator A appears.

Hope this helps.

My Platinum behaves exactly per the manual extract that compyelc4 provided, and has done so since the day I bought it. I am sure someone has somehow turned the system off in Fatties' car, but I don't know how to turn this safety system on or off.

When we get deeper into the technology of this car, there are so many menus and possibilities. It is below freezing with a nasty wind, so I am not feeling like going out and diddling with my Maxima at this time (3:45AM). Maybe someone here is more adventurous than me, and will play around with this and maybe come up with the answer.

That’s parking aid assistance. They work all the time even in drive mode. If it detects an object in front it will display on the little screen from which side is the object.

I have only got beeps. Never once seen the little display screen while in Drive. I have only seen that little screen in Reverse. Now I am wondering if something has been bummed since the first day I bought it brand new. I even tried factory reset in the little screen area under settings.

I will! They did replace the whole nav unit as well a while back. Think it could be hooked up wrong? Then again the short time the original unit was in. I still had never seen that screen before. I also always wondered why when in Drive coming across objects I will only get beeps and no visual information. Even when saying going into a parking spot with a basket in front. Just beeps like crazy but no visual screen.

Could be.. I’m not really familiar with the electrical work but from what I understand is that this display needs to triggered by a command. Which is programmable. If sound is working I don’t know why display does not engage. What year is your car?

Are any other owners not seeing that Sonar screen like me while in Drive and parking? Just curious if others might have this problem as well and not know it like me until now.

I have attached three photos showing 1.) Parking Aids in action (an air compressor is about 3' from my right bumper. The two rear cautions came on when I lowered my garage door. It is about 2' from the bumper. 2.) shows Driver Assistance main menu (where you will find Parking Aids sub-menu), and 3.) shows where you have a choice of turning Parking Aids sensor ON or OFF within Parking Aids. I have a '17 SL.

Awesome. Thanks for the pics and mine seems to be in order. But you did not test in Drive to see if that Sonar comes up like in the first pic? All I have ever gotten is beeps as mentioned before and no visual. If you check out my first post in the video. 3:20 mark the car is in D and its showing sonar visuals just like what ya see when in reverse.

I'll back in and out of the garage this morning and let you know what it does. I know that over 6mph or so all I get is the caution lights on the interior of the rear view door mirror mounts.

I posted a picture earlier to show that my car is in drive mode with the sonar screen but since I am new so that post is still waiting for Mod approval
Anyway, in drive mode, my car will beep first then the sonar screen will appear if I am keep moving forward. It needs to be within few inches from the object in the front of the car.

Wow that is terrible and I am sorry to hear that happened to her.

BlueSR,

Not ignoring you on the pic. Thanks for posting that. Its looking like I am going to have to take mine in as that screen has never EVER popped up once while in Drive when parking. Or even getting close to objects in the front. Just beeps and the crazy fast beeps when you get close to something.

FattiesGoneWild and BlueSR: I checked my graphics again today. In BlueSR's photo I see that graphic twice. The first is while backing at 2-3 mph, except on my clear driveway none of the corners are lit up. When pulling back into the garage that graphic shows up ONLY if there are obstructions nearby. If NO OBSTRUCTIONS, then I do not even get that graphic! The only graphic that is displayed under normal driving conditions is that very small graphic you see on the top line of the info center, far left. When I pass a car or visa-versa I only get the outside mirror amber caution lights but no other graphic or changes to that little graphic I just described in the photo.

Thanks so much guys. Think I am in need of a Dunce hat here. Seriously. I just got off the phone and made an appointment. I decided to go out and line a couple tall boxes up in our drive way. I bet my neighbors thought WTH is this guy doing lmao! Any ways. Backed out and put it back in drive moving forward back into the drive way. Guess what? It worked! You have to really get pretty close to objects for it to pop on. I guess I have been overly cautious distance wise to have never triggered it in drive where the screen actually comes up.

I can't watch the videos at work but my parking sensors once went absolutely crazy as I left work. They beeped incessantly as I drove out of the parking lot. I switched them off and realised later that the sensors were covered in packed slush/snow/dirt. Once I cleaned them off they were worked normally again.

Just started to noticed something strange with the parking aids. Sometimes I park my car on the driveway and when I’m not going anywhere I usually drive my car into the garage because sprinklers come off at 8pm.. anyways when I pull into the garage the front sensors for some reasons won’t alarm but when I exit the garage the next morning and I put it in revers sonar come on immediately showing that there’s an object at the front. I just tested it again.. I pulled the car into the garage nothing came on I shut it off and then fired it again and put the the drive(not reverse) it detected an object at the front 🙄
