Map Update
Did everyone else receive the "offer" for the map update with the "free" shipping? I imagine 95% of the people utilize their phones for maps so is anyone updating the Nissan Nav system? BTW, free shipping really annoyed me for a 129 map update, I am sure they have plenty of margin to absorb the shipping costs....
Yeah, I find my iPhone is more accurate and current on mapping. I do use the Max Nav, but won't update for the cost. I agree that there is enough money in the cost to offer free shipping, but that's with anything offering free shipping. There is no such thing as free, especially when it comes to a car purchase. The customer never wins that negotiation with the dealer on the sale of anything. The only way you come out ahead in a car sale is buying the car outright, or purchasing a gently used preowned where someone else took the hit on the depreciation. The dealer makes a ton of money on rate, so of course they will want you to finance. A cash deal is a low gross deal and dealers don't prefer them. Oh, they'll take your money, but they don't prefer it.

Some of us early adopters jumped the gun and can’t have apple car play 😡 ! I find that the SXM traffic info works ok, nowhere close to Waze, but it works. So for us dinosaurs, the map update is kind of necessary. The i95 corridor has changed so much since 2015, that my Nav gets all confused!

I have the update on my things to do list. $129 is kinda pricey, but I do really like the GPS system and its graphic interface. It has never let me down here in Ohio. Th $129 will sting for a while but I really would like to go with it...probably will bite the bullet. I also use my rather large Samsung Galaxy for GPS but I love the larger GPS screen in the Max more. I even like the graphics much more than my Google Maps. As for Waze, meh!
as the Sharks say, "for those reasons, I'm out"
Nissan can keep their out-of-date sh3t-for-maps.
1. maps.google.com , maps.here.com , maps.bing.com , ......
2. CarPlay
3. Went through two - TWO - nav units because the SD card bricked my system (while in service) and dealer be like "WHHHAAAAA?"
Nissan are seriously imbeciles when it comes to this.

I have a 16 and I swapped the head unit out to get CarPlay. I don’t understand all of the hate about it. If you don’t want it, don’t use it. The interface is lightyears ahead of the factory system. Waze/google maps are constantly updating their content, the graphics are significantly better, voice commands work better, size of buttons, etc. Overall, I think it’s a better platform for that kind of content as auto manufacturers will not be able to keep up with mapping services like google can. The Nissan update process is also very problematic, expensive for what it is, and archaic in 2018. If you are going to spend $130 on a map update which is probably outdated by the time you get around to it, you might as well try and track down a head unit with CarPlay/android auto as most are in the $300 range.
On a side note, if you look closely at some of the 2019 photos, you can see the new unit received a software update - notably in the map user interface. Perhaps that would have some improvemt over the existing map graphics and include some road updates, but I highly doubt that it will be pushed to older models. The same reason they claimed CarPlay couldn’t be an update (everyone who made the swap confirmed that was a lie and no hardware modifications were required). Nissan does that to get you to purchase/lease a new vehicle every time they add a new feature. Hyundai updates all of its vehicles, but I don’t want a Hyundai...

There is no chance I'd pay $249, $400 (BMW, Audi) or $50 (BMW grey-market) or $129 for this.
On my 2016 Maxima, my map is from 2013.
Even the newest one is from, what, 2016 or 2017?
Google Maps, Here, Bing, and everyone else are from... now.
The days of already-outdated map updates (I live in an area with a ton of changes year-to-year, including major highway projects) is coming to a close.
