Hey guys so I recently purchased a 2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum from Auction. Here are the pics. Waiting for car to arrive.

That car was totaled????

Steptide 03-07-2019 05:13 AM

How much did you get it for? Damage doesnt look THAT bad

robtroxel 03-07-2019 10:55 AM

As you pull this car apart, we would appreciate pictures of what you find. I am very impressed the front windshield is intact. Car looks to have withstood a major whack without intruding into the passenger compartment. Thanks for sharing

MadMax07SL 03-07-2019 12:51 PM

That's not really that hard of a whack^^^

Looks more like the vehicle went under a box truck or lift gate, then either pulled away or was deflected by the impact. It was high enough up, this could have been at any multitude of speed, 25-45 mph with or without braking attempt. This sort of localized clip really just riped up the exterior panels, and not actually absorbed a solid impact. Most important to note, the bumper cover is untouched for the most part, all impact was in the upper fender/hood. At least that's how I see it.

Could be some really bad frame damage you have not seen yet until you get it. They will salvage for that reason as well. Looks can be deceiving not looking bad.

^This. Frame damage most likely. Usually on the auction sites it will give some sort of indication of why it's salvaged or for sale etc.

Great price! I went up on the iaai website and see quite a few mashed Maxs. If you are handy, this could pay off fine!

Steptide 03-26-2019 12:07 PM

Just curious if there's any updates with this and how much damage/cost involved in repair

MadMax07SL 03-27-2019 09:46 AM

There's no traditional frame on these cars, and again, it's all damaged above the wheel, so the lower part of the car is likely untouched. There will likely be a few parts underneath that need to be replaced, the upper support that holds the fender essentially and header panel behind front lights, but probably more for reason that it will be impossible to get the fender and hood to lineup with just a repair. But welding on a new, or bolt on, not really sure what it looks like under there, it's likely going to be a quick turnaround. I'd love to hear the progress on this repair.

Hello Guys, Sorry for not updating everyone, I was on vacation. Here are some pics of before and after of the car. I bought a whole left Fender Apron, LH Fender (Aftermarket), Strut, Aftermarket Hood, and Aftermarket Headlight.

I took the vehicle to Eastside Imports located in Michigan. They did a great job with welding and putting the fender apron together.

Appreciate the update and like others, we are wondering how the costs to repair are coming in. Any surprises so far? Where did you come up with the parts?

Best of luck!

Honestly no surprises, I initially thought that the fender frame was going to be difficult and may have to tear apart the dash to weld the frame, but luckily I took it to skilled guys knew what they were doing and didn't have to do any inner removal of dash.

Majority of the parts I bought from a local parts store called Quality Auto Parts, they sell all sorts of aftermarket parts for vehicles. Parts were not expensive, the Frame for the fender I bought from a salvage yard for $580.
The left 2 doors had a small dent the size of a pencil, I had both doors fixed to match the fender and blend the right fender to match the front.
I will be updating with new pictures of the car painted tomorrow.

Very shrewd shopping on your part and Thanks for the parts break-out list. We look forward to the finished product and your overall report when done. I was glad to see you had the frame/body checked and corrected to specs. The key here is a solid body shop with fair prices. Standing from afar, I would think the average Joe might spend lots more dough than you have to make this car right, hence the total loss price. All the best

All I can say is incredible! You have a great eye for picking just the right type of wreck to restore!

Steptide 04-11-2019 05:26 PM

So, with auction price, delivery and repairs, total cost for this car is roughly 17-18 thousand? Did I add that correct?

So far the total price of everything as costed me 16,500. The only thing left to get done on the vehicle is alignment and salvage inspection which is about $200 for both. The good thing about this vehicle is that the Interior was untouched. No airbags deployed.

I will keep everyone posted on the final pics of the car.

Your maxima sure looks great! Have you road tested it? Don't forget to shake out the air filter. So all in, still $16.5? Did you replace any wheels/tires?

All in approximately $16,700. The tires and wheels were good, minor scraping on side of tire but still usable. Yes I road tested it and after alignment, car is like new. Runs great, no lights on dashboard.

Apologize if I missed it, but what's the mileage on the car?

Looking at the original post, the readout in a posted image says just over 17k miles.

Steptide 04-20-2019 12:42 PM

Curious how this vehicle ended up at auction. Looks like total cost to repair was roughly 6 grand. A maxima platinum with 17k miles that cost 6 grand to fix, and it's considered totaled? Wonder what happened with that insurance claim

The estimate for mine is just over 10k.
