Maxima won’t start

2017 maxima. I went to move my car and when I pushed the starter button nothing happened for about 1-2 seconds and then the car started. I was only moving it out of the garbage so I parked it after only a minute or so.
When I went to start it again it won’t start. The screens all turn on. I hear a click or two when I push the start button. The starter doesn’t make any noise or turn over. I tried jumper cables but the same thing. Key fob is also working fine. I’m in the process of looking for any relays/fuses but not sure where they would exactly be. I’m assuming not a fuse due to the earlier starter delay so maybe a relay somewhere?
Where should I be looking next?

thanks.

Did you check your alternator? Something similar happened to me a few years ago. Turned out I needed to replace my alternator because it wasn’t recharging my battery.

already tried jumpstarting it. Nothing.

The only new thing is I can hear the starter solenoid clicking so I’m figuring it’s the starter and or solenoid that are bad. I’ll try a hammer tap to it next. It’s kinda hard to get to though.

thanks

My 2016 Max also did this, and a new battery was the cure. Make sure the cables are cleaned too..

Battery was manufactured 10/21 and I removed the cables and resecured them. Also tried jumpstarting from 1 car and a portable jump starter. Also tried some percussive engineering while a helper pushed the start button. Nothing. Although I did feel the solenoid clicking so power is getting that far.
Unfortunately I don’t have more time to work on it myself so it’s going to a dealer tomorrow.
Thanks for the suggestions though. I’ll update when I have a fix.

you need to verify your getting a good connection with your battery, using jumper cables connect all cables except disabled cars neg. cable
turn on disabled cars headlights then connect neg. cable while looking at the headlights,if they brighten up then turn them off.
idle the good car up to kick in its regulator
wait 15 minutes then try to start
if no turning over but you get a GOOD click then check your starter wiring at the starter
if tight then its likely your starter.

Got the car back from the dealer Tuesday. They changed the starter and it has been perfect since. I’ll keep an eye on the alternator also but so far it’s been steady at 14v+ since I got the car 3 yrs ago.

How many miles on the car when the starter was changed? I don't hear of many starters going on the Max? I do think other brands that have the engine off at stoplights should fail fairly quickly.

95000 miles. The car went through 3 winters and 75000 miles in Pennsylvania before I bought it used and the starter had some visible corrosion on the outside.

I did have the car inspected before I purchased it and was told the frame looks fine just some surface rust but I did expect some issues such as this. I don’t live where we salt the roads much so I’m not terribly concerned. I’ll be watching the alternator though.

The price did reflect these conditions so I figure I’ve got a few more thousand in repairs until I feel like I didn’t get a good deal.
