Post 2016 Maxima delay shift

Hello everyone,
I have a 2016 Nissan Maxima and its my first CVT vehicle. As someone who driven only traditional Automatic transmission cars, I've noticed something weird with my 2016 Maxima.
Its when I shift to (R) or (D) I notice a delay or lag for half second or 1 second.
is this normal?

car is 120K kilometers
Thanks

Not the 1st report I have heard on this situation. I'd go for a CVT service and ask the dealer to read the codes on the tranny if any are stored on the valve body..

Went to two different places, they plugged in the computer scanner and nothing showed up. No codes nothing.

Mine does the same thing don't worry about it. Keep that CVT fluid fresh. Mine was black at 40000 miles.

Good advice. Just an idiosyncrasy for your particular car. Glad to hear there are no codes. Do change the fluid when you can though.

My 2016 Maxima did this when I traded it in at 105k and after I bought a 2019 Maxima with 18k that did the same thing I looked into it a bit more. I was honestly concerned when I traded in my 16 that the CVT was on its way out, my perception was it had gotten worse but in hindsight I don't think so.

Seems to be fairly common with CVTs. After reading about it I agreed with what I was reading, the delay is greatest when the CVT is cold and minimizes once it is warmed up.

Best thing I can probably say is I never had an issue with my 16 that did it. It is a nuisance because the time to go into gear can vary so I've had to train myself to wait for the car to start to creep before I hit the gas.

Here is some discussion specifically on JATCO CVTs and delayed engagement. https://www.transmissiondigest.com/c...nd-rule-delay/

You can also find other forums of folks in other cars with CVTs that take about this quirk. https://www.subaruxvforum.com/thread...r-to-d.175324/
