Question Key fob programming 2017 Maxima Platinum

I have a 2017 Maxima Platinum with remote start and push button start ... no key.

The wife lost her fob so I ordered a new fob on ebay that should be here in a few days. Do I have to take it to a locksmith to program it or can it be done at home? I found a video where a locksmith used some sort of electronic device to do it and the device guided them through the process.

Dealer or locksmith are your best bet. Personally, I'd call the dealer and see what they charge first. If reasonable, I'd go there over using a locksmith.

a dealer is much more than a locksmith
my locksmith charged me 75 for programming
look into buying a fob replicator and use your fob to replicate the codes to make a fob, that may be cheaper
