What should normal operating voltage be ?
What should normal operating voltage be while driving ?
I've been monitoring my voltage while driving because I was having some charging issues, I tightened some battery connections and now I'm monitoring my voltage to see if it's fixed.
I'm seeing around a constant 14 .3 volts and then some times it drops to around 13 .9 which seems good but after driving for about a hour and a half the voltage dropped to 12.3 volts while driving .
Does 12.3 volts mean that the battery is charged and so it lowered the output voltage to 12.3 volts to briefly stop charging?
Or is 12.3 volts while driving out of spec and should not go that low ?

IC voltage regulator (built into the alternator)
The variable voltage control system supplies a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) command signal to the IC voltage regulator to control power generation.
For example: The 2016 Maxima variable voltage control will regulate voltage output between 11.6 and 15.6 volts.

Here is what I discovered. I have a decent 12 volt battery load tester, and on both of my Maximas, which have new batteries, I will load test them sitting in my driveway, and both of them will have a message that says to recharge the battery, but the battery is good.
I have a NOCO Genius 5 and a Noco Genius 10 Smart charger that I use weekly to fully charge both batteries.
I am convinced that Nissan uses this system to gain 0.0125469 more MPG, so their CAFE numbers are acceptable to the CAFE Gods.
I am also convinced that our Maxima batteries are never fully charged by our Maxima charging system, by design.
