Hello guys,

This is a newbie question, but how do you change pads on 300zx/350z Brembo calipers? I was going to help my friend to change his, but now that I look at the design, it's not going to be a normal pad change as with stock 4th gen.

How do you compress the pistons? With the 4th gen I just place a C-clamp or a spreader with a wooden block since the opposite side of caliper piston allow me to do that. How do you do that on 300zx/Brembo?

Thanks in advance!

Here's how you do the Z32 calipers. Brembos should be similar.

1. take off wheel
2. remove top spring clip (the fat metal thing between the pads)
3. remove rear spring clip (the little wire thing that holds the pins in.
4. pull pins out (there are 2)
5. pull pads up and out.
6. open brake MC lid
7. use small clamp and a piece of wood to compress pistons back in. On mine, you can actually push them in by hand if you have strong fingers.
8. make sure everything is lubricated/greased correctly on calipers
9 use anti-squeal on back of pads
10. replace pads.
11. installation is reverse of removal.

Here is a good pictoral, also:

I use the old pads plus a scew driver to push the pistons back in. Works like a champ.

Thanks for the links, I suppose they use the small C-clamp for that. Mine is caliper spreader for regular Max brake.... never knew that one before. Awesome!

I suppose if I could not find the small C-clamp, I could always use the screwdriver with pads. I assume you just press the old pad against the rotor and jam a screwdriver between the pad and the piston to push it back in...right?

No. I put the screw driver between the rotor and pad. This will make the pad push the pistons back it. The tricky part is getting it started, but once you have done that its very easy. You dont want to get the screw driver blade any where near the pistons because if you slip you might tear or gouge the boot.

like I said....you can usually just push them in using your fingers....unless you're a girlie man
