Problem

Hey guys I went to get inspected today and all is well except one thing.

The guy told me that my rear left caliper has significant wear and that everything else is fine. He also said that maximas are prone to doing this. He said the brake is probably sticking or dragging causing the problem. What should i do?

Replace the rotor and caliper?

Caliper?

Pads?

Thanks.

I would simply replace the LH caliper & the pads on both LH & RH sides.

Rotor can be inspected for uneven wear and minimum thickness. If it is OK, then leave it.

for the most part except I would replace both rear calipers and both set of pads, and you may as well just do the rotors as well.

If you are a "performance" based type of guy, they just get new and better rotors all around, pads all around, and rear calipers. Check the group deals for good products...imo you should either get some Brembo blanks or RTP zinc plated blanks paired up with Hawk HPS pads

hope this helps

Unfortunately our rear calipers are rather prone to being "frozen" (dragging). IMO you should replace the LH rear rotor if it's no longer within spec, the LH rear caliper and rear pads. This might be a good time to get some hawk HPS pads all around as well.

Well, all the other brakes are like brand new so I would rather replace just this one or fix it until i do an upgrade when they are shot.

hmmm call it coincidence but just now i got my mechanic check rear brakes and he too said that the rear left caliper is rusted so much that he can't get the brake pad off of it to put the new one, and was telling me that we need to replace the caliper. It's the one that's making all the noise since last friday. i tried to find the info in stickies but it's not there, can someone list out all parts needed for each wheel ? Caliper, Shim, bracket, pad and ????

Okay, I got quoted 255 for a caliper alone from dave b. Is there any cheap solutions? I am short on money at the moment.

i checked with autozone/murrays, and they have a reman loaded caliper for $110 or semiloaded one for $90 ... think u shud get the semiloaded one, then buy ur own pads and install them ...

rockauto.com has cardone semiloaded caliper for $60+shipping ... but u need to ship your old caliper to get refund of the core charge.
