heating struts?

what i am thinking of doing is cutting of the lower spring perch so i can weld on a lower bracket for strut bags. my question is will this get the strut too hot if i stitch weld it on? btw, the struts in qestion are gr2.

not recommended.

my thought there is to modify a set of stock housings and then take the guts out and install a Koni insert into them.

thats what i would do... except i sold my oem fronts to someone who wanted to do the same thing. i have way to many parts sitting around to justify buying something else. i'll just do it the normal way i guess.
