J30 BBK questions?

I had pretty much given up on upgrading my braking any further but I started reading about the J30 upgrade and it seemed like it was perfect for my application. I'm into deep wheels so the bbks i was looking into (z32 then willwood) kind of lost there appeal. I want to run a normal, or even super low, disk in the future so the J30 caught my attention when i heard they had stock clearance. I went ahead and ordered some reman. calipers, now on to the rotors/brackets. I know some have used milled oem rotors and some have used cobra rotors with Jeff's kit, but has anybody used them with Matt's brackets and 04 rotors? My understanding is that the J30/Q45 calipers have the same mounting dimensions as the Z32, and if they work with Jeff's they should work with Matt's too right? Am i missing anything here?

I would think they should work if they work with the Cobra rotor kit and need the 3mm milling to fit the stock rotor with that caliper on the Max..
it sounds as if that's the case here, so I'd think they'll work.

whats the eta on your next run of brackets, or do you have any left? this might make a good (more) affordable addition to your brake lineup. j30/q45 calipers are pretty cheap and you don't need new lines.

ot: any update on your status for the meet?

The J30 caliper will bolt onto Jeff's bracket. They all used the same dimensions in respect to bolting onto the spindle. If you use the J30 torque member you will need J30 pads. Im sure you probably knew that but just in case. I had originally used the A32 torque member and J30 caliper but i wasnt happy with it, i wanted my 4 piston calipers lol.

I have Jeff's brackets sitting waiting to be installed, the corresponding holes lined up so i cant see why it wouldnt work. Jeff's require 13" Cobra rotors though.

...A maxima.

I want brackets to make the 13" rotors work, I suppose that means I'll need rings also. Are these out of production?

You don't necessarily need rings if you get the holes redrilled on the rotors. There is a vendor who can sell them that way, if you haven't bought them yet.

I dont run the rings, but I have it redrilled.

Did this eliminate the problem of the rotor 'unseating' itself when you take off a wheel?

For your information, I'm considering offering the brackets w/o the rings. My ring maker has backed out because they can't make them for the price they have before. If people are running these successfully w/o the rings (BUT USING THE REDRILLED COBRA ROTORS), then I'll just offer then this way. But I'd require the use of the redrilled rotors though.

Chime in.

How's that been working out? Well I assume.

It's Automax in the Group deal forum that sells them this way. Recommened and will probably be a requirement to buy the Cobra rotors this way as I probably won't be offering the rings anymore

Wait, I kinda got lost when reading the posts on the page........

So can I use J30 calipers and Bridges on my 98 SE as a direct bolt-on to my spindle?? Or do I need to get different mounting brackets??

And what rotors should I use????

J30 calipers + J30 rotors = need to shave 3mm off the radius. Then bolt on
J30 calipers + 13" Ford Cobra rotors = my brackets and need to purchase the rotors/pads/ss lines from Automax

Kinda noob-ish of me-Believe me. I have spent the last 3 hours searching...But will J30 calipers and rotors hit a 5th Gen? 2001. From all I've found-the only option 2000-01 has is BlehmCo's...I can't imagine that the spindle's would've changed enough that I have no options here. Thanx.

As far as I remember, the 5th Gen front brakes are veeerrryy similar to the front 4th Gen brakes......if not the same.

I dont think youll have a problem....

PS I might be selling my J30 setup (check sig for details) with less than 6K on it pretty soon....

It came with pretty much everything, the rotors, ss lines, brackets hardware, j30 calipers, pads, etc. However during shipment some of my packages got lost and ended up just receiving rotors =/. So can any one help me out on completing the BBK ? Anything up for sale that I'm in need of? Thnx

ALWAYS insure your shipments.. doesn't matter where or who... reasons like this are why you do that.

you can buy J30 calipers all day long at the junkyard for like $10 a piece...

anyways, to clarify something:

you do NOT need to do any milling of the rotor using J30 calipers with maxima torque members on a 3rd or 4th gen maxima. I've installed the combo on both. it's not a strictly bolt on affair though, there is grinding involved. search my posts or those of maxmaxima91 for more info, not gonna type it all out again right now.
