I've eclipsed the 70k mile marker, and I'm on my THIRD set of Front Rotors& Pads, not counting ONE lathing on EACh of the first TWO sets!!

All the While, I STILL have the OEM Rear Rotors on the car. Although - I DID switch-out the pads to Hawk HPS around 30k miles.

I get ALOT of squealing from the rear shims, and occaisionally re-apply brake quiet material to quell the offending noises, but not often enuff.

Question is this: How do I tell when my REAR BRAKE rotors need to be replaced??
Pads still have life, but the rotors are starting to look a bit blue and discolored, although I can tell no difference in performance -- or have I just gotten complacent?!

Anyway -- just looking for a bit of advice.

I'm tempted to just throw-in a new set when time permits....but money's a bit tight these days.

take them to a shop and measure the thickness. thats the only effective way.

 

Couldnt you just use a caliper or micrometer to measure the thickness?

 

Yep. FSM says 8-9mm thick min. Rears hardly get any wear compared to the fronts except when the caliper sticks.
