Timing Chain installed Correctly?

Before putting the engine back into the car, I need to know if I installed the timing chain correctly:

Left Sprocket, the right sprocket is identical, and matched w/ its mark.

Does this look right for ~TDC?

Thanks guys.

Yeah I need to know that too. I'm 90% sure that's how it goes, but by all means lets wait for Tilley to answer this. Free bump.

I believe my 3.0 chain has a white/silver piece and the rest are darker, sort of the opposite of yours, but same fonction. Wierd.

That looks spot on. Are the marks on the secondary sprockets aligned with the marks on the secondary chains?

Yeah, the 2 yellow marks face each other, and when at TDC, the dowel pins face up? (10 and 2 oclock)

I check my 3.0 chain and sprockets today and it's EXACTLY like yours. Should be perfect that way.

Prepping the engine tomorrow (putting that sh*t back together, and fitting the 4th gen wiring harness and oil pan on). The car is still in the body shop so it won't be in the car till next week, but at least the motor/tranny will be ready...

^ Cool. The thing i'm most worried about this swap is getting everything put back together and have it NOT start, or have it not run right.... I would go nuts! Hopefully the timing chain is perfectly lined up

Don't worry the 3.0 ecu/wiring harness is not complicated. It's pretty straightforward. The 3.5 wiring and ECU, on the other hand, is a nightmare. I think I'm commiting brutal suicide if I ever have to deal with it again.

It's your whole "ehhh...it's no big deal" attitude. You had to rip the dash apart for pete's sake. To me, that's a pretty big friggin' deal.

1. You had first-hand help from someone who had performed the swap already

2. Your car was down for a very very long time

3. You had to perform countless electrical customizations

So don't talk about it like it was a walk in the park.

to some people that is a big deal and to other its isnt. and who was that perso nthat performed the swap? and i sitll dont see your point of that my car was down for a long time. so what if it was? i was in no hurry so i took my time and made sure everything was done right like the electrical work inside the car and it wasnt a huge amount of rewiring htat had to be done. well at least that the way i think. everybody does things are their own pace and to me taking the dash off wasnt a huge deal because i already done it once.

sorry to ***** this thread man.

Maybe, but at least you had a parts car. I scavenged parts left and right without knowing how they worked together. Comparing the 4th gen wiring harnesses to the 2k2, the 4th gen is much more straightforward.

There was 47 pounds of wiring alone just for the engine bay on the 2k2.

I agree.

Bump, any precautions I should take before starting this engine for the first time? I'm sure its been a while since this engine has ran. (BTW, startup won't be for a few more weeks, or until I get everything put back together, and all fluids topped off)

Yes the box was 2 ft. by 2 ft. by 2ft and weighted in at 47 pounds.

Dunno, but I bought the sealer/silicone (whatever you wantto call it) directly from the dealer, to seal the timing chain covers back together, and make sure it's the right one.

How much more do you have left to do?

I have left:
-Install Flywheel/clutch
-Tranny
-Axles
-Water hardpiping
-Radiator
-Wires/Hoses
-IM/TB/intake
-Valve covers
-IACV valve
-Fill oil, coolant, tranny oil, ps fluid, brake fluid, and bleed brakes

The list seems to go on and on

Yeah, old everything. Kind of iffy on the clutch life though.

Well the car is at the body shop (repainting the engine bay/entire front clip without the hood/fenders/bumper on and repairing my rocker panels). I'll get a full paint job later this summer (super black, original color).

The flywheel was buffed a little (didn't need to be resurfaced), clutchnet 6-puck is in, transmission is bolted to the 3.5. Now I need to get off my lazy *** and install the cams/wiring harness and put that sh*t back together.

I do not need to buy anything, I have everything needed to complete the swap (including 3 brand new oxygen sensors). The car gets out of the body shop next monday (a week from now) and then I'll take an entire day off and try to get it running.

What I want to do is get the engine/tranny ready (right down to the wiring harness), so when the car arrives the only thing left will be to put it in the car, bolt everything up, plug, and pray to God I didn't f*ck anything up.

Hope it will be in and running in the same day. No more f*cking around, I can't drive the Tempo anymore. I'll go nuts. Bonkers. I can't stand getting smoked by 2.2 Cavaliers, stock Focus, Echos and Civics anymore. I just can't.

lol... Isn't the wiring harness still on the car though?

Have you figured out your fuel setup yet?

If vsamoylov is running fine w/ no fpr whatsoever and 3.5 injectors, We should be okay with an FPR and our injectors.
