swapping ecu's

Is there anyway I can swap a 00 ecu to a 2k1 ecu to get the TS ECU.

I have asked this a few times but got no real answer. I know one problem will be the EGR system. 00Fed spec have it and the 00Cali and 01 do not. It won;t throw a CEL because its not in the ECU to begin with. If the wireing harness is the same, I don't see why it would not work. It should be like the 97-98 using 95-96 ECUs

I wondered the same thing, but for me it might not be necessary because I’ am getting SC maybe by mid summer. :lolrun:

I've looked over the wiring diagrams a bit and 2000 Cali spec-to-2001 looks identical as far as ECU pinout is concerned. Also, the ECU connectors are all the same, so it should plug right in. Once(read *IF*) the 2001 Cali-spec TS ECU was released, my next step was to attempt this. I hope someone does this anyways, just to know.

If you have a FED spec or auto, then you could have more complications like the EGR to no EGR(mentioned above) and maybe the TCM stuff...I'm not sure.

Yeah I am fed spec and auto. What could be some effects if it wasn't to work. I don't see how the TCM would effect anything cause isn't the anniversary was the only one with a different tranny.

What wasn't to work? EGR system?

TCM just means more wires, since the ECU and TCM are interconnected. Might be plug-n-play also, I haven't looked at the schematic for autos though.

I'm sure there will be some differences, ie NOT just 100% P-N-P, however all the "critical" stuff the FSM shows seems to match between the 2000 Cali and 2001s.

If the ecu wouldn't work. If it all comes down it wouldn't let the car start right.

IceY2K1 May 9, 2005 06:03 PM

Depends on what isn't compatible/complete.

The car could start, but just throw codes or idle rough or possibly go into limp mode or just run like crap since it's fuel/timing maps are for an EGR setup, I don't know.

That's good to know. I have a 2k1/5spd/cali ECU sitting around that I was hoping to try this with, but I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do with my car yet…been busy with school.

Just to put another idea out there, I was thinking, for 2000/2001 people interested in doing 3.5 swaps couldn't TS essentially put the 3.5 maps onto the 2k1 ECU and tweak it accordingly? I spoke with Brian at TS a while ago about the possibility of them tuning a 5.0 gen with a 3.5l hybrid (3.0 timing chain/oil pan, intake/headers/exhaust, etc). My idea was to reflash the 2k1 ECU with their current 3.5/headers program and tune it to accommodate for the lack of VTC. Brian said it should work in theory, but he would have to talk to Tedeshi (sp) about it. I haven’t followed up on this yet but I thought it was worth mentioning. Can anyone here come up with a reason this wont work?

well I am getting a 2000 cali spec...so if I get an 01 cali spec ecu it should just plug right in right? without any cel's...I would hope...

i have been wondering the same thing for a while and i seee that there is a lot of emphasis on whether the car is fed or cali and i dont know which mine is, can anyone tell me how to figure it out. Also if i am reading right the cali 00 and 01 are the same ecu? Do i have that right. Cuase if i can use a 2k1 ecu i am down to try it and see what happens.
