Seeking advice during Valve Cover removal
Hello,
I recently discovered that at some point before I took this car, the valve cover (radiator side) was removed for some reason and improperly installed. When I say improperly installed, I mean the guy crushed a signal cable under it, just look:
So I decided that sense its leaking some oil anyway, I want to remove the cover to get the cable out, and install a new gasket while I’m in there. Also, one of the valves in there is generating a knocking noise so I was hoping to take care of that as well.
I have never done engine work like this before, so what I'm hoping to get here is general advice and precautions during valve cover removal, advice on gasket replacement, and maybe even help with the valve thats making so much noise. Also, should I get a torque wrench for when I put the valve cover back on?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Its not exactly performance oriented, but I figured that this would be the best forum to find people who know what they are talking about and who have taken their engines apart.
Knowledgeable help is much better than the "I saw my buddy do it once" variety.
