5 Speed swap throws CEL
5 Speed swap throws CEL
I asked in the 4th gen but no solid info found
People mentioned that you can use auto ecu but it will throw CEL ...
Don't know yet if it effects me here but I thought in the US it was hard to pass inspection if you had a CEL on.. are people disconnecting the CEL or what for inspections.. is everyone getting manual ecus instead ?
I hope theres away to fake the autosensor responses if the CEL is an inspection issue.
From my Haynes it looks like the Transmission Control Module(TCM) and transaxle control system(sounds like the same but listed as Information sensors)
Does it trip the CEL or does it flash the O/D light instead???

IIRC... per the FSM, several of the ATM codes will be relayed through the ECU and show up on the CEL.. not just through the O/D light. Best thing is probably just to get a junkyard 5-spd ECU I'd think...
It trips the CEL light, and also it won't do you any good to disconnect anything for inspection, they plug a scanner into the OBD port and will find the codes that way.
Get a 5spd ECU.
Good thing there's no inspection in IA

Thanks...
GRRR.. I'm in NZ with a Cefiro.. from what i've seen the ECU harnesses are different between Maxima & Cefiro.
In NZ Manual Cefiros are only 2litres so I probably can't use that ECU, and the US maxima ecu's wouldn't hookup without a harness adapter/rewiring which is probably near on impossible with out Cefiro FSM (+maxima one)
I'm hoping that I just disable the light, I know they don't use scanners, but I'm not if they check that the car does a selftest on starting (can fake a light flash for selftest with small timer circuit and a light bulb)
Hmm.. sounds like you may have some unique challenges then. So no 3L manuals? That's too bad.
You could try just disabling the light. At some of the places here they're not that careful from what I've seen, probably wouldn't even notice... but I don't know how it is there. Is this just strictly an emissions test? Or are there other items they check...

Cheers for your input (And anyone else who wants to step in...)
