OOVI SWAP: Need Grocery List to get everything I need.

OOVI Swap

Hey, I have DandyMax helping me out, but wanted to get some post in this thread for all the things I will need to take off the engine.

I will be going the 5th Gen Upper/5th Gen Lower route. This list is to double check and make sure I get every single item I will need. I have to make this trip count, and get it all.

1. Grocery List: Everything I need to get off the engine.
2. Tools List: List of tools I will need to take.

I appreciate the time and help, and I hope to continue with the rest of you guys in making the 4th Generation respected !

thanks
ceasar

He about summed it up completely for you...

One more thing, an rpm switch, or a VAFC to fix your AFR and control the VI w/ the vtec output

I was under the impression the rear ignition coils from the DE would fit the DE-K?

Pretty much the same as the VAFC. pink wire controls the VIAS/VTEC

Actually, they will fit. As my buddy Shawn posted in his writeup http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=121423 - you just need to take a dremel or something and grind the coilpack bosses down until they fit. Not hard at all, just make sure you tape off the intake holes or use a vacuum to suck the shavings away as you cut them off as I did.

The DE coilpacks fit on a DE-K valve cover? I know you have to grind down the coilpack tower things to fit on the 00VI on a DE valve cover but, never heard of anyone modifying a DE-K VC to fit DE coils?

What Sd0t is showing there is to grind down the bosses on the DE valvecover(PCV is on top) to fit the DE coils so the 00VI can sit properly.

The DE-K rear valve cover sits lower than the DE valve cover. This allows clearance between the valve cover and the 00vi. Likewise, the DE-K coils are not as tall as the DE coils. So the DE coils will work in the DE-K valve cover (but not vice-versa), although they will stick up above the cover and they will interfere with the 00vi (hence the need for grinding). You don't have to do anything to the DE-K valve cover.

But the DE coils will not work with the OOVI, on the DE VC with the towers shaved?

just out of curiosity, why did you choose to use the 5th gen lower?

i'm thinking about gettin the 00vi in the future but i'm leaning towards using my 4th gen lower IM so i don't have to change fuel rails and injectors and that way avoid having to get an AFC to tune.

Is there a benefit to using a VAFC over the RPM switch to control the VI? Also, how hard is it to wire up the VI to the VAFC?

If there is a thread about this, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Mike

I have my 00VI wired up to my VAFC-II, 100x better than using a analog RPM switch(Summit/Harlan), its WAY more precise, and so simple to change the rpm setting if you need to, on the summit you had like 30 dipswitch settings and a potentialmeter to fine tune it(never could get it working at the right rpm).

The VAFC-II uses one positive VTEC SOLENOID OUTPUT 12+, you wire that up to the 12V+ on your VIAS, and just provide a ground for it and bam your done...

Be sure to get teh VAFC-II not the VAFC because I've heard that some people cant get the VAFC to activate there VIAS (Jmeister I believe)...

OK. Are you refering to the Apexi unit? I am actually going to put a DE-K motor in my car so I just wanted to figure this step out.

Also, did you do any fine tuning to the air/fuel ratio and see any improvements or do you just have this unit for use of opening up the VI?

Thanks again,
Mike

Can the 99 SE-L Injector connectors work on the 00 Fuel rail? Also would this 00VI setup working with a Cali-Spec 99..?

No.

You shouldn't have any problems as long as you hook everything back up.

Someone needs to make a kit where all this interconnected parts from both VI versions are already together in one sold package...where I only need to bolt it up and connect a couple things and I'm done...

Some people on the Org have been selling 2KVI kits for $450 or so, including custom adapter plate. Check the 4th gen classifieds periodically.
