EGR valve with 3.5??
hi guys,
i'm still working on my 3.5 swap and came to this dilemma. My old 3.0 has a EGR pipe leading to the EGR coil than up to my 3.0 Intake manifold. Now the problem is the 3.5 manifold does not have a hole for this. Spoke with Tilley and apparently i can just ignore this but i would have a CEL light. Wouldn't the CEL light make my car work in open-loop(safe mode) hence affecting the overall performance of the engine? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. THX

No need to block off the hole. Just leave the vacuum hose going to the egr valve disconnected. Without vacuum it won't open and there will be no exhaust leak.
Of course, some people like to remove the egr valve to save the pound or two that it weighs and to clean up the engine bay a bit.
Edit: I just saw that you have a 99. Do they have the electric controlled egr like the 2k and 2k1 Maximas?

I don't think people understand what safe mode causes, your car will not be able to go over 2000 rpms. As you state open loop, which you mean fail safe mode. So a cel will not trigger that. Only if your car lets say was overheating it would go in safe mode. I should now a couple years back it happen to me and the Nissan tech. Told me all about fail safe mode...

Hi ,
As for the EGR, I think it's electric. I'm not too knowledgeable but i remember my mechanic saying it was. When i inspected the egr, the was 2 wires that was there one was the sensor and the other i would presume it's the electric power. I'll go see my mechanic and see if i can get a more clear answer for u.
