yeah, i'm planning on putting in the phanton grip lsd when i do my swap, should help with launching a bit better.
those #'s are awesome, especially on the nitrous. That car should be in the 11's.

I also have VLSD and I don't have any reason to believe it is robbing any power.

I didn't know mardi ever had VLSD even, I thought he went straight from stock to quaife.
Also, there are lots of guys out there with VLSD that don't show any abnormal dyno numbers. I30tMikeD for instance, both when he was NA and now that he's turbo.

I do seem to remember some talk about a fairly substantial power loss, though. But I could be imagining things. I just had another birthday, and I'm getting to the age where mental faculties aren't what they used to be. Back in the day I could remember really well. We used to wear suspenders, too. There was an old guy who put his suspenders on backwards, what a joke. My favorite joke is about the two aggies and the old hound dog. My dog is allergic to flea bites. I have to give him medicine for it. Dog medicine is so much cheaper than people medicine... What the hell were we talking about?

Phantom Grip is a no-no, as Iron Lung apparently found out. Spider gears go bye-bye.

I'm really considering putting this in my spare tranny, but i'd need a second opinion.

Amazing number, and great to see another 4.5 gen. A lot of good info in this thread.

<----has phantom grip lsd, no issue whatssoever, before when running nitrous, had broken axles, running 100shot, now, no issues whatsoever. 2 tire burn outs are way better than one.

I have/had a Gold Level Phantom Grip (PG) LSD on my cryo-treated tranny using 100% shockproof oil. It worked flawlessly (smoke from both tires), until I broke the driver’s side shaft (right on the spline) inside the differential. I have yet to open the tranny. When I do open it, I will inspect what 15,000 miles of spirited driving did to the cryo-treated spider gears.
I noticed no discernable loss in power between the open diff and the Phantom Grip LSD. I now have a VLSD installed with the newly added 3.5VQ. So, I can't equally compare parasitic losses between VLSD, PG LSD, and open diff.
Performance: PG LSD vs. VLSD
In short, the PG LSD was a beast. It felt like a true locker. The inner radius tire would slip/pop/hop on really tight u-turns, similar to doing a u-turns on pavement with a 4X4. Tire hoping was evident about 30% of the time with filled urethane mounts, and about 15% with a solid rear mount.
The AE VLSD is a much more composed unit. No locking and wheel hop is about 99% gone using filled mounts.
