auto transmission cooler

i installed my tranny cooler yesterday, and went for a drive, or some drives. some tranny fluid leaked out when i was installing it and i went to add some, but the stick wasn't showing that it was low. i went ahead and added a little anyway in the charging pipe, but is there any better way to get a reading on the level of it? i dont really trust that "meter" stick.

also, is the tranny cooler supposed to be hot as hell. i touched it and was feelign around to make sure there were no leaks and see if i could feel that it was working, like liquid going through it, and it was really hot.

i just hope the damn thing is working.

Im assuming it should be fairly warm or hot when at idle since theres hot fluid being pumped into it but no air getting to cool it down.

I guess that sounds about right, but do you know if there's any temp gauge people have hooked up to see what the tranny is at temperature-wise

You can trust the dipstick. There's no other way to tell how much fluid is in the tranny. BTW, did you check the level with the motor on?

It's suppose to be hot. If you do a lot of freeway driving it will be warm.

Chillin, does the transmission cooler offer any performance or economy benefits stock? (i.e. Without a high-stall or valve body modification.)

What did it cost you btw mate?

Well since heat kills trannies I figured it couldn't hurt. Also, jime reccomends it, and I'm wanting to keep it while I get into heavier performance things.
I don't have any way to see if or how much the cooler works, but it gives me peace of mind. I felt like my tranny was slipping or something, I don't really know what it is.
I just giving my tranny some help. Hopefully.
Cooler was 40 bucks at advance auto. Or around that much

40 dollars is a lot for chips man....i think your grocery store rippin you off. (jk jk)

the install is actually on maxima.org home page under shop talk/modifications/tranny cooler (let me just get a link)
https://maxima.org/modules.php?name=TMC
its actually a really easy install, but i like to take my time and it took me hours. plus, i lost a clip which i never found but looked for it for like an hour.
the most difficult part is securing the tranny cooler to the a/c condenser.
if you want to go the extra step you can do all kinds of tieing and extra chaf-proof heater hose layers like in the how-to but i didnt go all out like that. i might get back under there and do that though.
i think its worth it ,as long as its not causing any stress on whatever pumps the tranny fluid through it, since thats like an extra 10 feet of area to pump through.
