Well.. I tossed in a 2003 MAF today.. and boy, does this car scream! 12.5:1 A/F at WOT.. and lots of tire roasting through 3rd gear.. I'm going to shoot a little video footage later this evening. I'll post it up later..

http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...9667C2CF82.htm

Unfortunately, my buddy who was filming, left before the end of the night... It was like 35* out, and his girlfriend was b*tching.. lol.. Oh well, I'm bringing this white SE-R to the track Wednesday.. so, we'll see what she can do.

Very nice...I didn't see the thread about the first sentra VQ swap...how involved was this swap in that car? Does the stock tranny bolt up?

I use a VQ35 6spd bell housing, mated to the SE-R 6spd gearbox.. The boxes are identical in every sense that matters.

Damn ... you really give 2nd a nice ... chirp ... lol. It is a beast. On a personal level, I do not like the exhaust note, but that car can kick my car's *** so all respect to you. Great project. Definately keep the updates coming. Why does it seem like the tach is way off?

I'm building a turbo destroked VQ35 for my S13 this summer... nothing fancy... just shooting for 450-500whp, with a good, useable powerband.

It's because of the unequal length y-pipe like most, if not all, turbo maximas.

VTC (Variable Cam Timing) would only work I THINK if the 3.5 ECU was used. From what I have read, VTC is mostly for low end torque so it would only induce more wheel spin. Not that I would complain about being able to burn some rubber, it wouldn't be something exactly missed either. I would like to hear the official answer too

He used DBW in both cars and I know he used the VQ35 ECU in the first Sentra, so I am going to assume he did the same thing in the 2nd one.

I eliminated the vtc's on my swap to make it easier, it hurt my low end a good bit, but the top end screams just fine.

Low end couldn't have also suffered from the cams?

"just fine" = what?

We're not saying your top-end isn't good. There's just a common misconception that the VTC's don't do anything past 3000 RPM or so.

When you dyno(soon?)...could you try unplugging the VTC solenoid for a run?

I wish the FSM went into more detail. This is straight out of the FSM for my truck (VQ40) since its all I have handy. I agree it helps out everywhere in the curve, I was just saying that it seems to help more on the low end, <4000 rpm. My curve is lacking on the low end, top end seems to match VQ35's with vtc's and cams like me.

This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake
valve.
The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant
temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid
valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to
increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.
