Another VQ35 Sentra swap..

Started working on Jimmy's 2002 SE-R this week... We've been gathering parts slowly over the last month or so, and it's finally time for it all to come together.. Here's what he'll be sporting..

Maxima VQ35 (18K miles)
Spec V trans with bell housing swap
JWT Clutch
Stainless headers/y-pipe
2.5" exhaust
100hp single fogger nitrous kit
Maxima fuel pump
Custom CAI

Here's a few pics..

The car should run 11.90's @ 113-114mph on slicks..

Congrats and good work, but do we really need a new thread every time you start a VQ35 Sentra swap?

I see no reason, I find it more exciting then "I GOTZ ME VIAS H00KED UP NUCCAS! 00VI FTW!"

I think the 35swap sentra is nuts.

Or, how 'bout a classic SE-R, now that would be quick.

Don't be mad about the 00vi, but I agree that a 35 sentra is sick. You got your stuff fixed yet?

Man, it's because of Travis that we get all these fast SPEC-V's around here. Now it makes me think twice when I have to line up with a SPEC-V. Travis, you need to quit smuggling our engines into those SPEC-V's. Let's keep Maxima's blood line pure and clean...J/K, lol.

I found a 3.5 for $1000 with only 19,000 miles, so the 00vi will be getting sold.

I think its cool that your doing this. I think if I want a good sleeper car I'd do this myself. How long does one of these projects usually take and whats the hardest part about it?

That would have to be the ultimate cheap sleeper. It's like a CRX w/ a 3.5L!!

lol.. yeah.. I've measured, and it WILL fit.. but, it'll be a tight squeeze for sure.

I need to get with you some time about the mounts for the VQ swap into the S chassis.. I've sold my SR, and started accumulating parts for the VQ swap.. Do you plan to sell mount kits? If not, I was thinking about having some nice CNC'd stuff made, like I've done for the Sentra.

Why did you have to relocate the passenger side axle bracket?

The SE-R's axle is too short... So, I move the bracket over. It just so happens that if you move it over, you can bolt it to the single hole on the left side, and it 's perfect as far as spacing is concerned. I had a bracket CNC'd to bolt to where it used to bolt up on the right, and then, use a nut/bolt on the top to get a good grip on it.. The bolt also goes into the block under it, so it's got 2 14"mm bolts holding it there, then, the 2 that hold it to the block on the right side via the new bracket. Hope that makes sense...

There are no other axle choices.. The Maxima axle would have worked, but the splines for the hub are too large.. This has worked out great so far.

That is what I'm planning once I return from my deployment overseas. I'm thinking stroked/bored/sleeved vq turbo pushing 550-600whp would be sufficient in my NX. I only think of it all day, everyday and cant wait till I get home so I can get cracking on this monster swap with travis.

The engine is only a few pounds in weight more than the SR20, so weight shouldnt be too bad.

The VQ35 simply makes the SE-R a blast to drive... and has good manners for a street car when you need it. 28-29mpg on the highway at 75-80mph.. and 12.90's on slicks at the drag strip. You just can't beat it for the cost..

The weight isn't noticeable.. the car tracks straight, and doesn't plow through corners or anything..

Honestly, it really has more room on all sides, except for in the front.. You have to use slim fans..

I was on 22x8 ET Drag's.. I had traction issues off the line.. as I was only able to cut a 1.85 60ft.. A 24.5x9 would be a better size tire for this application.. and would probably yield 12.70's @ 105mph with a 1.75 60ft or so..

you couldn't 'frankenstein' a maxima and se-r axle together?

Unfortunately, no... the SE-R and Maxima axle CV's are incompatible (different sizes) We were trying to run the Maxima inner, and SE-R outer, but it just won't work.. no way around using the SE-R axle for this swap, unless you have custom length axles made.
