MEVI question?

I went to the track last night and had the same trap speed as I had with the usim, so I'm like wtf! I open the hood and make sure its accutating and it was, but a few of the screws that hold down the cover over the intake butterfly valves were loose and couldn't be tighen down. Tom and i check to see if is sucking in out side air and low and behold it was. Its a metal gasket too and replacing parts for this thing isn't easy, but the gasket should be fine its the screws not be able to be torqued down properly.

Now my question since it isn't sealed would that make it basically useless? I mean its not getting the full vacuum so I'm probably loosing power right? Somebody please help because I am very pi$$ed about this. I also added a jwt ecu, which btw was the best part of the night because I would cross the traps in 2 gear @ 7200rpm!

just curious what was your time?
im paranoid my 00vi isnt getting the best seal either, i have new gaskets and im buying the OEM screws from upper to lower intake manifold maybe it'll make a difference...
i did run better at the track i ran a 14.9 opposed to my usual 15.4 with the 00vi though

My times were exactly the same even my traps were the same 15.0-15-2@ 89-90mph. No difference

Dude you gained half a second I'd say everything is fine.

So youre saying the cover on the top is loose? Thats going to be a big vacuum leak, and could lean you out. It wont affect the operation of the actuator or anything mechanicly.

Running an MEVI + JWT ECU should eat the USIM times and spit them out.

What are your 60' times before and after the mods?

60's are the same and so are my times. Do think the leak is the problem? My times were actually a little worse.15.1-2 @89 instead of 15.0-15.1's@89-90.

I' really pisssed I will definitely use loctite, but I am definitely going to have to buy different screws because they won't bite at all.

If you tried torquing them down when the car was hot, that's a bad idea. And we are referring to the top piece with 10 or 12mm screws correct?

Hot Aluminum threads are FTL when applying any load when hot.

So you didn't like the ECu eh?

Try shifting to see if you get better traps. What size tire are you using?

Loss of vacuum/air leak = lean,

JWT = naturally lean,

lean = hot

hot = knock

knock = loss of power.

I was shifting at 7000rpm and I was on light weight 17's (17lb's).

Well I used some different screws and really torqued them down. I also found I was missing a bolt out of my iacv, so I might have been loosing some vacum there too.

I am going to the track again friday with my stock 15's and see if I do better.
