Which Year 3.5

I'm currently changing my clutch.(5th gen) and i thought that taking the tranny isnt a big deal but DAMN!!! So it hit me that I've always want'd to do a 3.5 swap, and lookin at my motor now.. its only being held by a floor jack and one Motor mount(center memeber, front/rear motor mount, tranny are All off) so.. I'm lookin for a 3.5 and i just wanan make sure WHICH year/s to get that has less problems if i remember corrcetly one year has the EGR/Iacv not having it?

And i really dont want it to have CEL on...*NC emissons*

or should i just try to get a Low mileage DE-K?

thanks

02-03 Max 3.5 had no EGR and No IACV, so yea that will set off your CEL, unless you get the resistor for the EGR and adpater plate from StephenMax for the IACV. 04+ Maxima 3.5s had EGR. Im not sure about the Altima 3.5s having/ not having EGR/ IACV so I wont mention them.

You sure you want to take on a 3.5 swap? I ask because you were complaining about a tranny removal, lol. If you think you can do it go for it, best way to learn is to get yourself dirty with it, lol

I will be codeless once I put my 95/96 cat back in and plug in my rear o2 sensor.

Trust me there is more to the swap than just pulling out your motor.

I believe the oil cooler is larger on the 04+ Max motors, not like that a substantial enough reason to go for that year. I'd go for 02-03 with the internal EGR, unless you want to figure out how to setup the egr on the 04+ 3.5's with the EGR that is present on your year car.

Besides the internal EGR, I believe the motors are pretty much the same.

You can always go for the 02 pathfinder heads on your 3.5 swap, which allows you to keep the 4th gen upper assembly, including EGR and IACV. This will yield no CEL's. But, it'll rob your pockets clean.

Use the 2004+ Maxima VQ35 and don't bastardize it like everyone else does. Use the whole thing.

But you still need the 2001-2004 Pathfinder bank 1 CVTC and CVTC cover.

SR20 ... why 04+ engine? The A34 engine is only slightly more powerful. Do the A34 6-speed ECUs use CAN system?

I know the A33B 6-speed uses no can system.

. . .

If one were to use the entire 04+ set-up, they could also use the Z33/V35 ECU.

Yeah good luck with finding the ORG member to pony up the dough to pay for that.

I am feeling the full A33B swap. A little easier.

To me, there's no advantage to running a Z ECU unless it's the Revup along with the Revup timing cover and exhaust VTC's.

Not even for the said VTC map of even the non revup? With a ZIM?

I agree with Nismology, there's no point doing the Z ecu unless you get the whole Z deal to work. Heck, with all these trouble, it's the simlest to buy a 350Z and say goodbye to all the hurdles.

The Z VTC maps can always be flashed onto an A33B ECU.

I'm all for the A33B ECU in an A32, though.

Because it already comes with the EGR connections.

Do the A34 6-speed ECUs use CAN system?
Yes but that has nothing to do with swapping an engine. You would only deal with that if you were using the '04+ ECU. If you're going to use a new ECU, use the A33B one and the A33B engine because you won't need EGR anyway.

If you really want to get slick, wait for the '07 Altima engine.

I know the A33B 6-speed uses no can system.
I think it does have an item or two on the CAN BUS.

How do you go about making it work??
The connections are different-- I have an 04 engine that I'm in the process of swapping and I was looking at that. The 96 EGR has 3 wires attached to the connector (if I remember correctly) and th 04 has six.... Do you know how to make it work/read??

This has yet to be proven, do you know something I don't know?

I asked for it from TS, but they said it was not possible. I've posted their replies to me in a thread or 2. Even sent it back so they can 'try' it but still didn't happen.

The 95-98 EGR is controlled via a vaccuum. The 04+ EGR is controlled electronically. You are going to have to adapt the entire 96 EGR system onto the engine somehow. Shouldn't be too hard. I think someone had problems connecting the pipe that goes to the rear exhaust manifold.

I would be happy to line my 'gramma car' up against most of your friends cars.
