Catch Can Questions

Ive had my catch installed for a little bit now and it catching alot of gas. how come there even that much gas in the intake manifold and getting caught in the catch can. I am running 555's but I have them turned down alot from stock..I am pulling fuel and the car rarely goes rich....

I just emptied it out now after a long trip and it was about 1/2 filled up, 3/4 of it gas and 1/4 of it oil.

I dont get it.

Maybe the cam timing in your setup would cause a reversion in the aspiration effect in the intake tracts. The valves may not be the most sealed also!! Good luck with your project, it seems great.

If you installed the catch can like most people (PCV valve or VC vent > hose > catch can > hose > IM Vaccum) then there's no way for that to happen as long as theres vaccum in the IM (unless while the s/c is creating boost there's a revertion due to the valves not making a good seal against the head- exessive carbon build up could do this, I guess this is a POSSIBILITY worth concidering). Try a compression check for this

The other, more remote, out in the b00nies possibility, is that somehow your piston rings are caca'd up, and allowing the mixture (under boost most likely) to seep into the crankcase, and this is where you catch the gasoline in the catch can. However, you would also have a loss of oil due to this.

Whatever the case, I think compression check is the next step in line. Best of luck

The motor has less then 10,000 miles on it. I really just think its the larger injectors causing this. I might go back to 370s in the spring although I do have Emanage. These are new injectors too

Oh ok I assumed original engine. I still think you should check compression, just to rule that out as an option.

I dont think its the injectors. Even if they were leaking or clogged, how does fuel get from them into the catch can? Its that path of travel thats got me pondering possible scenarios of what is going on inside the engine.

Ok Im just going to put my pondering thoughts on this.

Lets assume there IS a reversion of intake air while on boost. And lets assume that your current injectors are in fact leaking. So IF this is how you are getting gas into the catch can, wouldnt you also have gas settled at the bottom of the brake booster (is there a drain at the bottom of it to confirm that?)?

But even IF that was what was going on, how come other boosted people, s/c or turbo, have not complained of this situation (to my knowledge)?

EDIT- Do you have EVAP properly working? Im not sure of what the actual purpose of EVAP is, my friend with an RB swapped S13 got rid of his while he did his swap, I did away with mine for my swap (more room and less clutter) and both of us run no problems at all. Granted Im NA, but my friend also has a catch can on his car and all he gets there is engine oil, no gasoline
