Wideband in S pipe after cat?

Ok guys here's the deal. I got my LC-1 wideband shipped in, and i don't want to weld into my Y pipe if i don't have to because i might be selling it for headers a little later on.

Now i know that the A/F readings after the cat aren't as accurate as the before cat, but i'm wondering if it really is off enough to notice. Will it be good enough if i take out the stock o2 and put in the wideband for a few runs, datalog, and put stock o2 back? The location i'm talking about is right after the cat, in the S pipe that 97-99's have.

There is also a location on the Y pipe but that's before the collector. What do you guys think?

I would really like to avoid welding into my Y pipe.

I'll be 'tuning' with a VAFCII.

The only thing I can tell ya is get a Test Pipe (about 35$ or so) and have the installed with the O2 bung for the Wideband. Then youll avoid welding into your Y-pipe. Readings after your Cat will be WAY off

I have one for a 97-99(no bung) and can use a 95-96(bung), but they both came with the Budget Y pipe and they're both POS's that leak even with good gaskets. Exhaust leaks don't affect open loop ratios, correct? If there's no good way around it welding, i'll just weld into the Y pipe if i have to, i don't want to half *** it...

I had a bung welded into the y-pipe, then I can permenantly install the WB. Alot easier than removing the cat

If you take out a stock o2 and put in the wb than you will only get readings from one bank. This is not good b/c you want readings at both banks. For the most part the wb bung will go by the collector of the y-pipe.

Id weld a new bung into the Y pipe, and get a plug for it. Then when you sell it, install the plug and advertise it as a feature.

Thanks for teh replies, im just going to use a test pipe with a bung in it already. I really don't want my y pipe welded, people might see that as 'bad' when im selling it.

woohoo i get to hear my car sounding like a freakin dump truck again!

Thanks for the idea, i was about to get my wbo2 and was concerned about drilling my y-pipe. Great idea of using a test pipe as the two banks will be joined at the test pipe. I'm gonna hook the test pipe with springs/bolts with holes through the bolts and pass a hook through the holes for ease of removing/replacing and running open exhaust at the track!!

Well the wideband didn't fit in the bung that came with the budget test pipe, so my friend cut it off and welded the bung that came with the wideband. It's going on tomorrow, hopefully the ends of the pipe won't leak too much, i know the bung won't.

installed a VAFCII tonight also, pretty easy but had a few problems with the ground wires being 'forcefully extracted' from the ecu plug...oops...The buttons lit up, but the screen didn't. It's all good now though. My throttle shows as 97.xx(dont remember)% when WOT though, gonna have to research on that....

Give it a few WOT runs, it should learn.

for you guys that had the bung welded and drilled the y pipe, did you have a shop do it or did you do the drilling yourself? I'm trying to look into all this for when I add the wb and vafc to the 00vi. Thanks.

Shop did it for me. Cheap as well. He used an acetyline torch to make a hole.

My friend used a drill to enlarge the bung hole that was already on the pipe.

The VAFC 'learned' the throttle positions, so thats all set now. It looks like i need to adjust my TPS though, voltage seems off quite a bit.

Is your tranny jumping at shift? I'm still trying to figure out if my tps is the cause of this in my car.
