Finished the swap.... but one more problem...

Ok guys, i got my car started, and got it running...
went for a test drive then then it happened..
seems like when i hit about 10mph, my car jerks really hard, then its ok, then it'll jerk again.
when i shift into second, it'll jerk again.... its pretty weird.
im thinking it may be my TPS and it might need to be recalibrated? what do you guys think?
i have the cable bracket mounted on the intake manifold, so im guessing its ok.
does the 2 metal pieces where the tps and the homemade metal notch supposed to be welded together?
Im almost done with this swap.... and im going crazy....

thanx for the help guys..

Peter

Is there any flex in the way you have it bolted up to the intake manifold?

i dont think there is much flex....
can that be a problem? a huge problem to make the car jerk like that?

im a newbie

so im a newbie...and for one i cant figuire out how to post my own thread but anyways...
i see you have done the swap already...now i have a 95 maxima vq30de engine with about 180k miles on it...it runs good but id like it to run a lot smoother and/or replace it and just get a whole swap done
the transmission was replaced so my question is
should i rebuild the motor or just replace it??
what are the cost differences and performance differences
what is better?

Stop whoring my thread.....jkjk.
3.5 is obviously a whole lot better and faster and if you replace with the 3.0 motor, it'll be cheaper but they will all be with high mileage so its up to you really.
i would say drive on your current engine right now until it poops out on you then swap it out. if you want it to run smoother, get a tune up, that's all you'll need.

anyways.... now can anyone give me any pointers about my car?

Too much flex would probably be almost as bad as mounting to the firewall. Any chance you could get a pic of your setup?
Those little notches don't need to be welded together for the TPS. The only reason it wouldn't work is if there wasn't enough tension in the TPS to keep up with the notch connected to the TB shaft.

is the tps set right? Mine is off a little and it shifts hard to 2nd and 3rd. Check that.

To tamer, should be in the newb thread for questions like that. Obviously its a 3.5 so power is better. I would think that's obvious. Wait till your engine dies or go for the swap if you have money and know what you're doing. Remember this is not an easy swap and judging by the fact you didn't know 3.5 is a mahor power difference, I would start reading up on the swap before doing anything.

From the pic you sent me here peter, looks like the TB cable is crunched. Try to move the bracket so that the cable has more freedom of movement, and make sure there are no kinks.

Don't forget to try to adjust your TPS per the haynes manual.

i think its the picture, but the cable is not touching anything...
i think i will have to adjust the tps....
if tps is not adjusted, can it cause the car to act like that?

Until everything is eliminated, anything is a possibility. Get things out of the way one by one. Checking the TPS/linkage mechanism is as good a place to start as any.

i agree. Would you happen to have any of the apexi AFCs? you can monitor throttle % and V on one. If you're holding the gas steady, and throttle is fluctuating up by more than .5%, that TPS is moving.
I agree with Nismo, that bracket for the TPS is way to flimsy. get something beefier for it. I had the same sympthoms but went away when I put in the PF TB (to which the TPS screws on to like on the 3.0 TB). Ultimately a PF TB (if you can get ur hands on it) will solve any moving-TPS related problems.

Glad you got it running tho! Driving with a shaky TPS is a PITA, but once you fix that you'll fall in love with your car all over again, lol. Completly different beast

well guys, i know that looks pretty flimsy, i wanted to use that temporary but now i guess ill have to make a permanent one now haha.
you guys think it could be that? if the tps moves a little bit it can cause the car to jerk that much?

Peter
