XJinCT's VQ35DE swap/progess thread *UPDATE:RUNNING!* 2nd page
specs of my 3.5 engine
history: came from an 02 altima which had a warranty engine replaced at 40k...car was crashed at 60k...so it has 20k on it.
stock 255hp, 246tq
setup: stock 3.0 ecu, stock 3.0 harness, 3.0 timing equipment swapped over to 3.5, 01 3.5 pathfinder throttle body cable driven, rebuilt as stock engine (all NEW OEM gaskets used for everything)
just about ready to go in....
01 pathfinder tb and adaptor all set ready to go
the cam snout that broke off when taking off the 3.5 timing parts...
timing all set ready for the outer cover to go on....

So where did you get that load-leveling device and how much did it set you back?

heh didnt think it was a big deal to pull it out with the tranny, it was actually pretty easy. i got it at pep boys...it cost me 30 dollars. figured it would be a nice add-on to my nice new-ish hoist. you can see it in the engine pull pics, its right off the hook of the hoist...that red bar with the crank on the end.

finally got the 3.5 in
pretty bare...i just put it in 15 min before this pic.
looks like my car has a sty in its eye.
cant wait to get working at it tomorrow
OH AND I DONT HAVE THE TRANNY ON BECAUSE I BOUGHT MY CLUTCH (SPEC STAGE 3) FROM IMPORT CAR PARTS PLUS IN THE GROUP BUY LINK here..WITH 2 DAY SHIPPING LAST WEEK...AND STILL HAVENT GOTTEN IT...SO DONT ORDER FROM THEM IF YOU DONT WANNA PAY 40 BUCKS FOR 2ND DAY AIR SHIPPING EXTRA AND YOU DONT GET IT FOR WEEKS. AND CALLING THEM WONT HELP, BECAUSE THEY'LL GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND SAYING 'IT SHOULD BE THERE BY NOW. WE'LL CONTACT THE SHIPPER COMPANY'...and never do it.

OMG ... every swap thread I see makes me want to cry from the potential. On a personal level, I would prefer to do a a full 3.5+ECU swap to keep VTCs, but major props for your work. It is a requirement that you take some videos of rubber being "left" on the street going into 2nd and 3rd.
Speaking of that, (Off-topic I know) does anyone have a video of a Maxima chirping 3rd? I have co-workers who think a family sedan can't do such ... only their Civics and dime-a-dozen Mustangs can.

the engine leveler came with my hoist and was a LIFE SAVER. i dont know how i would have managed without that thing, there was times when i had it cranked real far in one direction to get that thing out of there. I personally took the tranny out first when removing everything but they went back in together when re-assembling.
okay but my question is WHO PAINTED THAT INTAKE MANIFOLD? i was just asking about that like last week because i wanted to paint mine and i was told it has negative effects to do that because it would trap heat inside it which is beneficial for headers but not intake.

right, yeah its gotta be painted. i guess just try to take it off with a wire brush or something.
i dont get it though, arent ls1's intake manifolds black? llike the new corvettes and stuff...i coulda swore they have black intake manifolds..maybe because they are plastic its different

I didn't need it to pull the VQ out but we just put a 383 back in a buddy's 94 Firebird and the leveler was sure useful there. Getting the engine in under the cowling - what a pain. Much nicer to just pull the VQ straight up and out.. haha (no tranny attached though).

so i figured i would show you guys how i gangstered my throttle cable .
hey it works GREAT though. attached to engine, no movement at all...it moved SLIGHTLY without the zip ties, and now its solid and functions perfect.
good thing its not a show car though!

here's how i have my tb cables set up. Drilled and tapped a hole in a scrap piece of metal and attached the oem bracket to it, then bolted it to the manifold.

edit- also, my throttle body is cocked at an angle due to the adaptor plate so..it might be easier on the cables that way compared to yours being aligned perfectly upright.

oh yes i know its incorrect lol. my friend just started to plug things in randomly lol. i saw the spare one on the left and was worried about other things...but thank you for noticing .

ITS FINALLY RUNNING GUYS!!!
so maybe i dont have a slave cylinder so it wont move, and maybe its open downpipe, and maybe for some reason i have a horribly erratic idle...but hearing it ****ing run after months of work makes me so happy. it started up the FIRST time i connected the cam and crank sensors (unplugged to prime chain tensioners), a tear almost came to my eye i was so happy....ill get videos and everything once i put on my slave cylinder.
oh and i have been working hard if youve sent me pms or anything i havent been around. i will respond to you all now! sorry for the inconvience i dont get on here much.
any ideas on the horrible fluctuating idle? i have the stephenmax adaptor and ran it similar to the stock setup? ill try to get pics of my setup i dont know why it wont work. i let it heat up and still nothing.

Awesome man, don't worry I had my aeromotive loose for a long time, finally got around to welding the bracket to the firewall and then threading in those small little allens, but that's awesome.
You should mount the iacv way over on the passanger side back, you will have to cut the wires out of the loom and get a longer of the large hose, you need the smaller iacv adaptor hose as close as possible to the upper manifold, I'll take pics when I get a chance.

congrats. GANGSTA IS RIGHT. i gotta clean mine up too though..and get the iacv hooked up..probably somethin along the lines of what KRRZ350 is saying. I never thought of T'ing the vacuum lines like that...If that could work for the iacv rather than having to drill and tap for a new nipple that would be cool, thats the main reason i dont have it hooked up.
hit me up if you need one of those throttle cable bracket blocks like i got.
