The 3.5 HR runs

I just heard from my Motec tuner and the VQ35HR is wired and runs and he will be tuning on the dyno this weekend. He is going to run it with and without the variable exhaust cam timing to see if it makes a difference on HP. I will let you know what it does power wise after this weekend.

This is in a tube frame 350z race car. I was running a VQ30 but have upgraded to the 3.5. It is out of a G-35.

There is some debate on whether the variable exhaust cams were for emissions or for more power. Motec only knows of one other car that has been configured for variable exhaust timing so it will be interesting to see the results. This motor is stock with custom headers and dry sump this time.

Cool, looking forward to results. I know of another VQ35 that will be running with exhaust VTC + standalone soon but not on a Motec. I believe the exhaust cam VTC will be useful with aftermarket cams that are higher duration/lift than stock.

For those who haven't seen info on his race Z33 before, go here, starting around post 35:

Niz-Dat, do you still have the Z33 manifold/Pathy TB combo you had on there previously? Was the Pathy adapted with an adapter or a welded flange? I'm interested in buying this setup from you. You've got PM.

Well the motor runs and sounds great but we get a terrible hitch in the motor at 5000 rpm from the crank sensor. We suspect it could be a harmonic vibration in the tooth ring or it may not be true and since the Nissan sensors are so sensitive that it is sending out a bogus signal.
Now its time to pull the motor and we will piggy back another tooth wheel to the flywheel and use a sensor that is less finicky but needs more mass to read from.
