LC-1 wideband questions

Okay...I planned on installing my wideband and tuning today until I was told/and read that there isnt actually a wire to connect to the RPM wire on the ECU. Can someone clarify that there is another component I need to buy in order to tune this? I got the impression one of the wires connected to the RPM wire and then I could datalog on my laptop.
How do you guys tune without having an RPM to look at on the graph?

It does it by time. You as the driver know the RPM that you start and end the run. So you know thats the rpm range you have to work with when you log. Then you make the corrections in that range guesstimating more or less wat point in time is what RPM.

Its EASIER if you have an RPM X-Axis on the log, but really you dont HAVE to have it to log and tune. Takes maybe 1 or 2 more runs to get it all right but its no big deal. I've been tuning like this for months, and this si how we've been tuning streetz' car for like 2 yrs now. Works just fine

alright the wiring is pretty straight forward except for the brown wire which is Analog 2. I dont think I need it, although it shows it hooking to the ECU in the diagram. Analog 1(yellow) is for a gauge and I'm not using one at the moment so I know that one will be loose. Should I be leaving the brown wire loose as well?

My buddy purchased the SSI-4 to log the RPM signal as well. Take a look at the innovatemotorsports site.

The more I read these threads, the more I start to think it'd be alot easier to just go get cars dyno tuned.

I just bought a used safc2. I dont have: a laptop, wideband with 02 sensor or anykind of rpm reader. What would it cost me to do it myself? At least $400 for the laptop, $3-400 plus for a wideband, another $100+ for whatever to look at rpm signal, then what software do I use on the laptop? Sounds like alot of money to try and do this? Am I missing something here?

Radioshack sells a serial to usb adapter. Thats what i am using to log my zt-2. I think you can find them cheaper on ebay or something man.

And to you if you plan to mod once and never change things then yes a dyno tune is in deed cheaper but if you are like me and others we would be spending thousands of dollars or tunes and waiting to have it done.

thanks. I'll check that out.
new problem. I make my corrections, I subtracted up to 20 points(?) of fuel and showed no differences on the wideband. I kept going back to subtract more fuel but was getting the same results on the wideband.
2nd gear pulls- VAFC2. any ideas? 500 rpm increments. Its dipping down below 11 and steady in the 12's up top.
I changed it back to no corrections since it wasnt giving me any results, just to be safe.
thanks.
on the wide-high map.

Could you elaborate more on the time method? I have the SAFC2 and the LC-1, but was waiting to install when I bought the SSI-4. I have a laptop and can connect to an LC-1 no problem, but the tuning w/o RPM is where I would see difficulty.

the way I understood it was basically that you record your run (from 3k to 6500) and nothing more. That way when you look at your graph you know the beginning of the graph is 3000~ rpm and the end is 6500~ and everything in between is the rest of your powerband kind of like a dyno chart. I was doing it last night and I got the basic concept down I just wish the car would make the changes that I entered into the vafc.

I started at 10.9 and it went up into low 12's toward the upper end. I've been driving like this for over a year

You could also add in a fair amount of fuel at one arbitrary RPM, then use that as a reference point in the wideband's logs.

Well I kinda knew that.sorta...that's a good thing though right? Doesnt really have much to do with the irresponsiveness though, yeah?

the only wires I connected to the ECU are...the throttle position wire, both grounds, both power wires, the maf input and output and the RPM wire. are there any kind of vtec settings I need to be entering numbers for to allow the vafc to make corrections or something?

I bought the damn cable. Now when I plug it in its telling me I need a driver. Excuse my ignorance as far as this goes...but is this something I should be able to get off their website? I have version 2.04 of the software so Im not sure if I need to be updating any firmware or what to do really.
