5 speed sway in a 5.5

i am hoping someone on here can help

I have an auto and i hate it
thought about a shift kit and if i cant get this to work i will do it
I found a great deal on a 2000 5 speed tranny and i have a junk yard with all the parts i need to swap.
My question is the ECU
I have an 03 auto so the ECU is designed as such.
What will happen when the 5 speed tranny is put in. My mechanic is a nissan tech and knows how to wire the wires up and make it work but he told me i would throw a shtiload of codes. he has a 3.5 manual swap in his 4th which was auto and he has all the tranny codes on all the time so he just unplugged the bulb. I am concerned about damaging a NICE And RELIABLE car
has anyone done this swap before
Any help is appreciated

Before you ask. I tried to get a 6 speed but the only ones i can find at 1800 dollars and the 5 speed is 325
thanks in advance for your help

FYI:

A33B ECU does not come in 5MT trim.

It's been tossed around before. No one has done it, but I would guess it's essentially the same as a 6MT swap. That HAS been done, there are a few threads on it.

Also, www.car-part.com does have 6MT's available.

what do you mean by 5mt trim

are you suggesting that the ECU wont run on a 5 speed

Looks like you edited it, anyway.

Since no one has done it, I would assume it is safe to say that a 6MT ECU should work.

Search for the threads on the 6MT swap, read them, and go from there.

i read all the 6 speed swaps
no one talk about ECU compatability as far as i can see and they are all in a 4th gen which has a different wiring
My tech is sure it will work but i am concerned that it will put the car into ECU safe mode

Well from what I know the ECU doesn't know what gear the tranny is in, all it gets is the speed sensor signal...

If that's the only thing, find out of the speed sensors on the 5 and 6 spd trannys are the same and go from there

Won't you need new tranny mounts too? I know the 5 and 6spd tranny casings aren't the same.

Both Jime and I run A33B auto ecus with no drivability issues. I run a 6MT and he is running a standalone controller for his 4AT.

You will get a CEL (CAN code) for the missing TCM.
