PISTON SIZE AND COMPRESSION?

Can anybody tell me what is the largest piston i can put in a VE30DE? How about a .030 or a .040 and what about compression? Can i go up to 12.1 c/r ? Can the stock ecu handle this?

I don't think 12.1:1 is going to be friendly with pump gas.

I don't think anybody has ever really beefed up a VE30DE before like you're talking about. So, if you do find out something that works, I hope you can come back and post about it.

I know you can get pistons used in the VG30DE Z32. The highest CR anybody has ever done that I know about is 10.5:1 with those Z32 NA pistons.

I have been in contact with JE,WIESCO,ROSS,ARIAS,and BME. Just to name a few and so far Wiesco has the piston i am really hoping i can run. They say they can give me a .040 12.1 forged/coated nitrous ready piston along with rings/pins/clips for $155.00 a piston. So i am looking at about $1000 to my door.

That would be a pretty nice buildup if you're not concerned about running race fuel most of the time. Are you serious about actually doing this project or just doing research right now?

I AM READY AND FUNDED. I have been wanting to do this for a while now and cant seem to get any info other than smart asz remarks from people on here. I am just wandering if the ECU/fuel pump/regulater/injectors will function right or do i need to upgrade. Can the stock ecu and fuel components hang with the bigger pistons/comp ratio? I can go 3.5 miles and get race fuel all day long for $7.00 a gal. I am also going to do a full rebuild along with Eagle h-beams. I am looking to find a good head shop to if anybody knows one that can work these heads right. I am wanting a port/polished along with intake also and bigger tb.

The fuel pump should be just fine. But it's easy to upgrade if you can't keep steady pressure in the higher revs. It really depends how much HP you plan on making whether an injector upgrade will be needed. But that's easy as well to do later in the future. You are in uncharted territory with this build. Start a progress thread and post pictures in the All Motor section if you do get this off the ground. I'm definitely interested.

The ECU will be fine. You'll just have to be able to tune it. Several people have done this by using a PLMS daugherboard. In fact, PLMS just released a new system that emulates the ECU on the fly using only the consult port. So it's a functional plug and play ECU emulator! Definitely the best way to go! You'll have full access to rev limiter, injector sizes, fuel and timing maps, etc.

This will definitely get going real soon. The ECU has been my major concern along with the piston height/valves. Wiesco said it should be fine but who knows. I am going to have to tear it down and do some figuring to be shure before it gets fired. You seem like you know alot on the ECU area?

QUOTE]They will be within 2 to 3 grams of one another and will have to be built all at once. I noticed today that we are now out of the 96.50MM ring that would used to build your pistons. The delivery date is 11/4 but they come from over seas and the dates don’t always hold.[/quote] Just got this from Weisco . Well i guess i am on the waiting side for now. But this gives me time to get the engine out and sent off for prep.

I've done a lot of tuning myself. I've experimented with swapping in the Z32 ECU into my VE Maxima so I could use the Zemulator (emulating system for Z32s). But that didn't work out. Too many bugs I couldn't fix.

But, you can also get into chip burning. That has been done a lot with the KA and SR crowd. What works for them, will work with the VE as well. Same type of ASIC design 16 bit ECU.

But by FAR your best bet is the emulation device that PLMS just released.

Hadman has this system. In fact, he was the first VE guy to test it out just recently.

Yeah, it is. Very versatile and very inexpensive in comparison to other EMS' available. Aaron pretty much covered it's base attributes, and there is more detailed information on http://www.NIStune.com
Loading their web page is iffy at times. Sometimes it doesn't want to play, but otherwise their customer support is excellent and they constantly update their software and updated ecu maps. Good luck. It'll be interesting to see what you are able to squeeze out of the VE.

I can't wait either. I have never built a v6. This will be a huge learning experience. I will document everything along with pics. I am also still reserching on other components and am tring to get my foot in the door here at my local speed shop to let me use some of their equipment to do some other mods after hours. This will be a slow build due to other factors like work/down time/family time which i believe in/and extra activities. But when i complete all on my list and everything is sound. This thing should be a BEAST. I am about to post a list of all i am going to try and acomplish with this build so i can get some feed back from others on the org. and get other opinions and veiws of it all.
