2 quick vq35 swap questions

I'm interested in doing a full swap w/ ecu. Would it be more cost effective to buy the engine and the ecu separate or would it be more helpful to buy a wrecked i35 or 5.5 gen and use it as pick-n-pull? What I'm really unsure of is the necessity of having the wrecked car or if it will help me when doing the ecu swap or for needing parts.

Also, at the same time, I will be doing a 5-spd swap. I just want to clarify that I can use an auto ecu as long as I bypass some features on the ecu?

Thanks.

Find a 5 speed wrecked I35 or 5.5 gen and swap whatever you want. It'll probably be a lot easier that way.

i agree, however the chances of finding one are slim. I could get lucky, but i don't think I'm that lucky.

I know it has high mileage (215k ), but there is a crashed 6-speed on E-bay with a buy-it-now of $2,500, I sent him a best-offer of $1,500 and he came back with $1,600 but then I saw the mileage. This was 2-weeks ago, so I wouldn't be suprised if you sent him a best offer of $900 he'd probably come back with something a hair over grand. U-ship.com and you could get it to the west-coast for another $300-450.

Figured I'd let you guys know about it, I'm passing on it for the mileage but only because I didn't need it for myself; it would be a hard sell to swap that in for a paying customer; BUT if I didn't already have a very low mileage 3.5 & 6-speed I would buy it for the right price for myself no doubt. Maybe get a Wisconson .org member to go out there and take a look at it and check the tailpipe and other stuff for signs of oil-consumption. Wyche's car still tears it up at the strip AND go's through less oil then my mom's 5.5 w/90+K and IIRC he has like 280K.

ya i want to do a full swap at some point, so ideally it'd be nice to get a wrecked 3.5L + 6spd and just swap the whole engine and tranny together.
but they are hard to come by, sigh.

So I'm gathering that grabbing a wrecked 3.5 is the way to go when doing the full swap. Thanks guys.
