Scored a 08 Altima VQ.. :)

Got my hands on a new VQ the other day.. Going to be tearing it down and posting pics of everything..

http://www.fi-r.net/images2/VQSwapFiles/VQ35HR2.jpg

It's got HR heads for sure.. the block appears to be a regular VQ35DE casting.. The front covers are different, obviously.. as are the cam trigger wheels/sensor locations. Different accessories/drive system (single belt with tensioner).. But, I'm hoping that I can use the heads and upper/lower intake manifold setup for sure.

In for pics. Is that UIM material similar to the 00vi?

DrunkieTheBear 03-31-2009 06:17 PM

Nice pick up..

I see they went back to plastic IMs too

TurboS13Hatch 03-31-2009 06:42 PM

Yup.. back to plastic.. I've been told that it flows better than any of the other VQ intake manifolds. But, we'll see.

The best flowing IM was the Z33 Plenum....

any more 360 pics of the engine?

I recenly heard differntly from a company that does ITB setups for the VQ, They flow benched that z33 clam shell and its worse than the FWD IM.

I would also like to see more info on this, The best Manifold that flows the best if the PathFinders. The same company above mention that.

I dont know or seen any flow #s on paper but they do design ITBs setup all day long from the UK( Jenvey )

grey99max 04-01-2009 08:35 AM

Speaking of intake manifolds...

Take a look at the Jenvey ITB manifold package for the VQ35. That is an elegant package - LIM, ITBs, fuel rail, linkage kits available - just what I need for Cosworth heads !

I wonder if K&N makes a filter for this one..

:D

Good God.. I bet that thing is expensive!

DrunkieTheBear 04-01-2009 01:27 PM

ITBs = :bowdown:

would love to do them but I want to go SC'd

but the sound that ITBs give off is impressive

Probably - all their UK prices are in pounds - but to quote one of Jenevy's web pages, under Services,

Projects we have been involved with recently include:

blah, blah,
"In house development of complete Nissan V6 system to fit under the bonnet of a 350Z".

Ain't that a cute drawing? and so much for having power brakes - what vacuum ???

You can still have vacuum with itb's

With a discount, probably only $2,500. I bought my Cosworth heads here.

Imagine the panic when you lift your hood in the staging lanes at the drag strip for a little cool air, and somebody spots the ITBs... Heh...

Here's a complete workup on the Jenvey ITB for the VQ35:

(Jenvey is advertising a complete ITB package for the GM LS7 - nearly stock, it puts out 665HP at the crank.)

Ha ha, my local strip is HEAVY on the domestics, you would probably here the announcer say: 'Look at everyone running over to look under that honuh's hood...'

I'm in the Kansas/Missouri/Oklahoma dead-zone for imports. but I've taught three strips what a Maxima is. Probably 10 of 100 cars is some sort of import on the Grudge nights, and less on the bracket races - although KC's Allero Racing builds nasty turbocharged rotary engines and puts them in RX-3s, and Revline Racing builds 9-sec Honduhs....

Alright guys before we start this talk about ITBs ( and sorry for thread jacking Travis )
InjectedPerformance has the ITBs that my shop made, My guy sent the package to Hal at Ip to have the custom box mount up. Basically my guy sold him ,because we did not have access to a 350z.The members on My350z Fourms thought this would never happen and called out Jenvey not having a Full setup.
My guy IS a Jenvey Dealer , he is from the UK and does ITB and turbo and custom fab stuff which we are currently working on turbo kit for a 6th gen and a future intake manifold

Now Hal has had this setup for a good 3 months and he has YET to finshed putting up the Airbox mount up. They are d!cking my guy around everytime he calls InjectedPerformances , and they are NOT returning his calls.

Hey if You really serious about this just PM me for the info on this. Im glad you posted this link cause im going to show him tommorow.
And yes Ive seen #s on the 350z in the UK with ITBs setup... N/A with his Emerald standalone make some sick power.

Good catch travis. Since I saw this IM and observed 07+ altima dynos I've realized that this is the best thing to happen to FWD VQ's. The torque of the functioning 2k2 VIAS and the top end of the SSIM and the heat rejecting goodness of the 00VI with a better LIM. What's not to love? :)

Yeah, it looks like a winner.. I just hope that I can make the heads work with the older timing equipment/covers.

JAMAICANLOVRBOY 04-03-2009 08:13 AM

i can just imagine that thing in a gen 4

Yes, definitely keep us updated on that.

TurboS13Hatch 04-05-2009 08:10 PM

It's on the stand in the garage.. just have to find time to tear into it. ;)

HotshotVQ35 04-10-2009 05:19 PM

bump :)

nismology 04-10-2009 07:23 PM

Why?

TurboS13Hatch 04-12-2009 08:27 PM

I just haven't had a chance to break it down yet.. I've been slammed..

I think the 3.5 guys are antsy. This could be the best upper and lower manifold to use to date other than ITB's. Look forward to what you find when you get the time.

MDeezy 04-15-2009 04:48 AM

in for results... might be able to get my hands on an 08....

Weimar Ben 04-15-2009 07:22 PM

Anyone have a FSM for a 07 or 08 alty?

MDeezy 04-15-2009 08:08 PM

I'll look around... I have an 07 maxi...:gotme:

Weimar Ben 04-15-2009 08:39 PM

I think I may have found it, thanks to The Google.

TurboS13Hatch 04-15-2009 09:37 PM

If it works.. can you share the wealth? :)

VQpwrdSpeC 04-16-2009 06:26 AM

Travis, did you ever get that VQ by me?

ghostmax301 04-17-2009 09:26 AM

OMG i hate you!!
when i replaced my 3.5 i was suppose to get the 08 altima motor(HR heads and new UIM FTW) but the motor had cracked in the accident so im stuck with a damn QUEST motor!

04flspecv 04-17-2009 10:46 AM

subscribing

itb's look soo good, make a set travis =P

You still have access to it? couldn't be that EVERYTHING was cracked?

m_turner_02 05-13-2009 10:08 PM

been about a month, any updates on fitment of intake manifolds?

denice25 05-13-2009 10:26 PM

congrats.... and good luck...

It was discovered nearly two years ago that in order to use the '07+ LIM withouth major modifications the associated cylinder heads must also be used.

The only real question that remains is HR head-to-DE inner timing cover interaction.

l3ftonm3 07-16-2009 12:21 PM

Stupid question, but I assume the DE lower manifold bolt pattern would not line up with the 08 altima upper manifold and you would be required to try to rig the altima lower to fit?
