stright forward cam info

i have read and searched and the only posts i can find on cam swaps are cunfusing. they have mutiple convos going on at the same time and its hard to tel who is talking to who.

so my question is i have a 95 maxima with the stock vq 30 motor in it. what power gains can i expect with a cam swap? is it worth the money, time, and effort to do it? i see that the DE-K cams have an extra .019" of lift on the exahust side and less duration on the intake side. that does not sound like much at all. now the VQ35 cams from the 35th 350z has .078" more lift and more duration on both cams how much power would that be worth?

this is assumeing that nothing else will be changed except what needs to be like spacers and what not. so if i left everything else stock on my car and put in the biggest stock vq35 cams in my car what kinda power gains can i look forward to?

Do an 00vi before you worry about cams. Cheaper, easier, no downside.

Takes quite a bit of effort to just throw cams in. And if you were to do a cam job I would suggest putting something besides oem in there.

2000-2001 Maxima with the VQ30DE-K. Yes you can find parts in the junk yard. There are a bunch of different ways to do it but this is what you will want to get from an '00 or '01 max off the top of my head:

Upper IM
Lower IM (if swirl valves are present you may want to delete them)
IACV
Fuel rail/injectors
Rear valve cover and 3 rear coil packs
Throttle body

And of course all nuts, bolts and vacuum hoses. I may be forgetting something. There are ways to do it with the 4th gen lower IM, and the 4th gen TB, the 4th gen IACV, but going all 5th gen is the easiest way to do it and IIRC had the least amount of headaches.

if i do the swap ill probley get the EGR block off plate from a 2001 max and jsut take it off. i blocked off the EGR on my girls bonneville and so far it is keeping the intake a bit cleaner. MPG has gone down a little bit but not much.

i was reading if i go with the 2000+ injecters and stuff i will need some sort of tuner set up. would like a apxi type tuner be enough or should i go with a EM set up for more tunabillity? aosl wont the EU control the VI?

the VAFC, EB, and EU will all control the VI.

E-manage will give you more tunability and I think it's slightly easier to use cuz you use a laptop as opposed to four buttons lol.

The nice thing about the EU is timing control which is a big deal if you want to make good N/A power. I've seen DE w/VI make like 190whp AFR tuned, but with timing control there was one DE w/VI that hit 220whp with more to go. The EU can control VI activation as well.

EDIT: MOHFPro types faster than me.

Scratch the SAFC off the list... it has no capabilities to control the VI... you would need a rpm switch for that.

alright so as soon as i can get the money saved up ill start collecting parts for my swap i guess. i need a new injecter for my car now ans one went out. now instede of replacing just one injector ill replace all 6 and the intake.

just a quick question the MEVI was never sold in the states right? i know its middle ease variable intake but i was not 100% sure if it was ME europe (asia whatever) (SP) or ME usa?

MEVI was never sold in the states, no. It's available through the org and IIRC courtesyparts, you won't find it in a junkyard unless you're lucky enough to find a max with one installed.

The 00vi is a better design anyway, more area under the curve. If you wanted to do cams, an 00vi install should be a walk in the park.

yes motor work is not a prob for me i have rebuilt the ford 32V DOHC 4.6 motors. they have alot more parts then these to im sure and deff more valves. SBC motors are a cake walk i just rebuilt the one on my truck about 6 months ago (turns out motors dont like mud in them whoda thunk?). i would realy like to find a junk yard vq30 and rebuilt it with good parts in it and to have a nice 0 mile motor but then again who dont wanna do that lol.

Idk if courtesy still sells them. It would prob be easiest and all around better to scavenge yards in your area and grab an 00vi complete setup
