precautionary 3.5 thread
kicking some ideas around, getting a 2004 3.5 with a leaking headgasket for cheap
Anybody know if the 3.5 headbolts are the same as the 3.0? Or if the 3.5 headbolts with work with 3.0 heads? i cant find the thread with the two next to each other.
and since im going to be going so deep into the engine already to fix the gasket and replace heads, how hard would it be to go the whole 9 yards and rebuild the whole thing? never done an engine rebuild yet.
im going to attempt a 00vi on a 3.5, we will see how it goes.
3.5 crank and pistons, 00vi ported maybe, either 3.5 injectors or 2k1 injectors, not sure if the 3.5 will fit in the 01 LIM, ported 3.0 heads, and 3.5 jwt s1 camshafts. all this is hypothetical since i have yet to get the heads off the 3.5 yet to see if they will fit.
aiming for high 270-80 hp

are you going re-use head bolts? I mean you cant if you measure them and are still in spec, but either way if your going to take apart a 3.5, mineswell get new head bolts. they arent expensive. actually get HR head bolts.

I was already going to see if the HR valve springs would fit with the heads so the bolts would just be a +1 to the collection. might as well mention ill be using the JWT cam spacers, HR springs, cometic head gasket, and NWP might get some attention from me for the spacers but i have never been able to justify 200 for 10hp, but i probably will this time.

threadlink about modifying the cooling passage? Is that the mod where you bore it out slightly but watch out for the oil passage behind it? or is that the pathfinder coolant mod? i read so many threads i get them all mixed up.
any good sources for HR stuff im at 360.84$ for bolts, gaskets and springs from courtniss. Surprisingly ImportRP doesnt have prices that can beat dealership for these parts!

They compare the three different head gaskets, HR being the best one as well as the head bolts.
Your best source for nissan parts will be Dave B at Nissan. I dont have his number handy but I am sure someone can post it, or if you search. I got all my parts from him, as most doing builds do the same.

ah! I see its the mod that Arron did on his 3.5. Thats very interesting and i will be doing that for sure when I get the block torn down. That was one of the most informative post ive read in a awhile. It also confirmed my question about the head bolts being used for both 3.0/3.5 heads. Now i just need to figure out if the 3.5 injectors will fit with the 01 LIM or if Im going to need to get bigger injectors also.
