5th gen 5spd swap question
5th gen 5spd swap question
I actually have a 4th gen SE 1996. The body is in rough shape and I have a deal on a 5th gen GXE automatic.
Will I be able to complete the 5spd swap conversion with only 4th gen parts??? If not, what will I be missing???
5th gen part list is welcome. I done 3 complete 5spd swaps on 4th gens but none on 5th gens. Will the pedal assembly match the firewall and underdash clearance to have the pedal oem looking and functioning?? And so on, dont be afraid to be technical, guys, the more I know, the better it'll be.

I'm using 4th gen brake and clutch pedal assemblies in my car. As a matter of fact, the only thing 5th gen i'm using is the shifter linkage and the shifter itself. From my reaserch though, you can use 4th gen linkage, but the shifter will sit farther forward. But again, this is just what i've read through searching on here.
You can you use everything 5spd from a 4th gen except for the shifter rod and support rod. It is shorter by about 2" than the 5th gen. You CAN extend those 4th gen rods, but its easier to just get 5th gens.
For bypassing the ecu, just locate the park/neutral wire on the PNP switch harness (located on the trans itself) using the FSM and ground it. You'll be able to start the car without depressing the clutch so be careful, its just a quick way to be able to start driving the car and check for any problems. Id recommend wiring in the clutch inhibitor switch later on when everything is set and done.

You can use either 4th gen or 5th gen axles. I've used 5th gen axles on a 4th gen chassis and visa vera on multiple occasions. The only thing you have to watch out for is LSD.
Tranny mount is the same thing. I'm using a 4th gen one.

Hey, if you want.. i have a full wiring harness and ecu for a 2000 5spd Maxima. I can't use it because i have a 2001 and the egr's are different. PM me if you want.
But to the OP, goodluck on the swap. Everything is straight forward.
LOL yea me too.. I am the only one who drives my car so i know about the safety switch. I've just been super lazy to do the extra wiring for the clutch inhibitor and even the reverse lights.

Greetings...
Tried to post a new topic but management has a 15 post restriction... :-(
The question is: Can you take a 2010 VQ35DE that come with an Automatic
and add the 6speed without a hugh amount of fabrication? Thanks for helping out.

i have some question on this topic seeing how many people have done it. i have a 1997 max and i just swapped it to 5 speed and i got alot of codes. what my questions are.
1. do i have to have the manul ecu for me not to have codes or can i get away with the auto.
2. what wireing do i have to do for this to work i have read alot and i keep gettin diff answers and its cold as a switches tit outside so im trying to do it asap.
3. do i just unplug the transmisson computer and leave it unpluged ???
if u can message me it would really help me out alot. i have a thread that tells me wat to do but like i said i keep gettin diff answers all over the play.
