Need Multiple Intake Manifold Questions Answered!
This thread has become Much More than I anticipated, Lets keep it going; feel free to add anything you feel is relevant when concerning Intake Manifold Swaps!
I would like a few questions answered!
Update: Just to clarify a couple things, My intentions are to put a 00Vi on a G35.
1. Has anyone ever attempted the Z Manifold swap?
2. Has anyone ever put an 00VI on a 3.5?
3. Any Dyno's to speak of?
4. Possible Draw Backs?
5. Wasn't there a newer and improved 3.5 Manifold made of Comp Plastic that featured the VI' Runner's?
6. PIC'S of EVERYTHING you feel is relevant!
EDIT: anyone have a comparison between the Z Lower and the 5th gen Lower?
Thanks in advanced.

2. 00VI has differnt lower ports
3. im sure theres pleanty
4. depends on your setup
5. The Altima and 09 Maxima comes with a plastic mani ,HR motor, differnt ports
6.
Pretty sure the standard Maxima/FWD manifold with the block off plate and spacers out performs the other options except for some modified 350Z/RWD manifolds, but the effort outweighs the benefits. Theres about 2-3 people with Z manifolds, I believe Jime has one.

I have parts to do the 350Z IM project, but haven't been home (i.e. stateside) long enough to do it yet... I think one goal I have is to do a back-to-back comparison of the 350Z w/ 5/16" MD isothermal spacer to the stock Maxima IM w/NWP. I'll post info when I do that, but it'll most likely be in April.

Jime has also done this (A33B ECU/A32 body/chassis), but I haven't found any pics.

And of course, see above for grey99's potential project.

Yeah theres a few people running the Z IM. I actually started modifying one for my girls 3.5 but I think we may stick with a tuned SSIM setup. Just from the dynos and many posts on the forums I think its better. We're still going to continue to modify it and dyno test both setups later this year.
Sweet Awesome Info Guys!!! The reason im asking is im going to be picking up a G35 Sedan when i get a good lump sum of cash. I have a 00VI swap laying around was curious if anyone ever did a dyno to see if the 00VI was better on the 3.5.

There are several threads on my350z that go into intake theory and proven results on NA engines which could be applied for us as well.
This thread even has a dyno somewhere in the middle including SSIM vs BOP as well as plenty of info about what makes power for these engines on the last page. Also some theorizing about the FWD IM vs RWD IM.
http://my350z.com/forum/na-builds/44...-revup-16.html
SG's threads in the NA section are great, also. Just more proof that plenum volume makes for some solid power increases up top. They've also proven the revup lower plenum to be a beast at 7000+ rpms (when those giant short runners actually help instead of hurt), while losing tons of power below 5500 or so when compared to the non revup IM.
I would bet on a well done SSIM (not all SSIM are made equal...) beating or matching pretty much any 350z IM setup on an average NA setup with mild after market or rev up cams revving to 7500ish rpms with an optimal usable power band in the 5500-7500 range. The non revup 350z IM with spacer (or BOP FWD IM) would probably beat it in the 2000-5000 range, and the revup would probably beat it at 7000+. I'm speculating based on the few dynos we've actually seen comparing them and based on the results of 350z specific testing, so this isn't fact or proven.
Personally I'm going back to the SSIM now that I'm aiming to up the rev limiter a little more since we've seen many dynos proving 30+whp gains at 7k with a SSIM vs stock FWD IM. Not even going to mess with the 350z IM...

I saw gains close to an '00VI but NOT as much as an '00vi would have given, I had it both functional w/rpm switches & SSIM'd, and neither one gave what an '00VI would have (Except for some real low/midrange) so my conclusion from that has always been an educated GUESS that an '00vi would give gains over a FWD 3.5 manifold on a 3.5.
I've been dying for the opportunity or someone else to do this swap, I've been saying it for a long time now. I know for sure that within a few years when my moms I35 motor finally fails it's getting a de-k with VTC, 3.5 heads on a 3.0 w/'00vi on a 5.5 gen ecu, I haven't seen why it can't be done yet. I can see some valid reasons why I shouldn't, but to anyone that points them out I have to say, the 3.5's are garbage, the newer ones are even worse, mexican made pieces of ****.

Who was it that was cranking 600 HP out of a 3.0 with stock internals? I don't recall.. Tatanko gave me a few links once.. Wish i would have saved them..
But anyways, so now you guys know my grand Idea The Plastic VI (Either 3.5 or 3.0) manifold on a 3.5 G35. retaining the G TB IACV Ect... Ported Hopefully? Currently this is all speculation as i have not found a 05-06 G Sedan 6 Speed with less than 100K miles that is in my price range. But.. The Maxima is Tired.. Shes taken on 3XX,000 Miles like a champ and now its time for her to get a tune up and be granny driven by a friend.

But above all of that, you cant compare grey99s results to the rest of us either way.... I thought this would have been the most obvious observation.
Remember though, the IM isnt 100% the reason for the (claimed) increased power on the A35 maximas. The head is completely different and the block has a few differences too. And if it does make anymore power than our current aluminum IMs, I highly doubt that it will be anything significant enough to warrant the cost of all the machine work it will take to make it fit to 1st gen VQs. My speculation is that it will just shift the powerband though.

Oh by the way... I guess this is relevant to this thread. Apparently the "newer" Kinetix velocity manifold for the RWD cars makes good power on NA vehicles.
This is a MREV 2 + 5/16 spacer Z manifold (blue) vs the kinetix (red) dyno comparison done by Z1.

It could probably be installed on our car in a similar way as the regular Z manifold is. As long as the hood clears...

Were talking on the 3.5 motor correct?
Pardon me jumping in on the thread but, I was just curious. Will a Kinetix Manifold work with a vq35 swap in a 4th gen max? Will the Kinetix manifold give you the most gains for a vq35 swap in a 4th gen max? Any problems with this? Is it worth buying?

Since I'm here I figured I'd share some useful information about intake manifold changes and tuning. For the noobs take your time and read though this and you'll learn alot.

Here a few pics of how a DEK UIM & LIM can be ported and have similar volume as a VQ35 UIM & LIM:

I have yet to prove the gain, but I'm working on it and will try to start the engine this week-end

Trust me, I've been doing alot of research on this and could'nt find much
. I also went on the z forums and they say the kinetix manifold is a big difference compared to stock and I also seen some 3.5 altimas with them too. They say that u really feel the difference with the Kinetix manifold @ High RPMs and that the material is made out of SS, not aluminum. I'm doing a 3.5 swap in the near future and I'm gathering as much information as possible. So your saying it's not worth it? Anyone?
Thx, great article!
But, I did not see anything about the Kinetix Manifold
Do you have any links on why the kinetix is bad for our cars? Thx.

How about a 2008 Altima UIM and LIM installed on a 3.5 in a '99 Maxima? Of course there are "extras" here, but the installation works great.
