So I'm attempting an engine swap Diy. Have already ordered a haynes manual. A complete write up on how to remove the engine would be great. Someone please help me thanks in advance.

Edit: Sorry "write up" not right up i was just typing fast and didnt double read.

I dont know if there is a direct 3.0 write up but im sure if you look up 3.5 swap you will find some good reading on swapping out engines.

FWIW alot of people have diffrent ways of pulling motors. But in all reality its pretty straight and foward. I personally think dropping the motor is easier then pulling it though the top(im sure others will argue)

drain fluids, disconnect all harnesses, pull back main engine harness, disconnect exhaust, disconnect rad hoses, disconnect fuel, disconnect mounts mounts pull motor. Im not going to go though in full detail as i said before there are diffrent ways to swap motors. And get a FSM IMO its alot better then the chiltons......

And if you ever have questions search is your friend. And if that fails post with your issues you are having and there are seriously 100's of members that are more then willing to give you a answer(as long as you search and show a effort that you are trying)

Pulling the motor on these cars is easy and straight forward. If you're good and have air tools, you could do it easily in a couple of hours or less.

One shortcut is that you do NOT need to remove the hub completely. Just remove the top bolts that attach the hub to the strut, rotate the hub and bend the half shaft and you'll be able to remove the half shaft the hub and then pull the halfshaft out of the tranny. At least that's the case in my VLSD 5spd.

Also, you do NOT need to remove the tranny, at least with the 5spd. The engine and tranny can be dropped or lifted out together. A chiltons/haynes manual may say otherwise.

Although optional, I recommend you pull the radiator to prevent damage to it and to give you more space to work in. Don't ask how or why I recommend this.

Take every bolt you see out and it will just fall out.

No seriously though search for the FSM for your year car and look up 3.5 swaps. The first time I pulled a motor I didnt have step by step instructions but I did have a friend there that did it once before and he guided me through it. I would check your local section to see if anyone would be willing to lend you a hand thats done it before.

You're not going to get a guide on how to remove every bolt and every wire harness. Seriously, if you need something that will baby you along like that, you probably shouldn't attempt this by yourself.

Air tools help, but are not necessary. You need a 34mm (IIRC) axle nut socket ("rent" from Dumb@sszone), breaker bar, cheater bar (steel pipe from the Home Despot), 19, 17, 15, 14, 13, 12, and 10mm open end wrenches and sockets, 3/8" and 1/2" socket wrenches, extensions, U-joint flex extension, floor jack, jack stands, cherry picker, sludge bucket, sledge hammer, pry bar, PB blaster penetrating lube, oil, coolant, wire for hanging brake calipers, sand paper or scotch brite for cleaning grounds (IMPORTANT), brake cleaner...I'm sure there's a few more. If you don't have every one of those things, you'll have a difficult time completing this.
