5spd Auto Trans-N 2003

Alright as it stands. Im happy with the power that my car has. Im happy with the overall tune for now, and pretty much going to stop wrenching on it for a bit...

The issue that now arises is that the car pulls hard on the top end, and if stalled up in 1 or 2 its perfect. But when it gets to third it takes a bit of time before convertor lockup so its got a bit of lag in 3, maybe from 85-90. with an additional gear in there, i think that it would drop me in my powerband with each shift better. My goal is to shorten the gears to get it in the powerband sooner and longer with each shift as it does when manually shifted from 1 to two.

I do realize that I can utilize a supra stick to achieve this, but i would rather do so with swapping the auto 4spd to the auto 5spd of the 6th gen. Has anyone tried switching these units to anyones knowledge?

Just looking to brainstorm, as i have a pretty good deal on a tcm and trans right now...just want to ensure im not wasting money. thx.

I was told by a couple of bad asz members that it would be possible, bot mechanically and electronically (albeit a bit of a headache)and that was before our new found electronic options as of late.

This thread has a few links.
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...s-5a-5-5g.html

In others threads where the subject came up (difficult to search for all of them) Jime mentioned the wiring would be a semi PITA (like 5-6 years ago). SR20DEN mentioned mechanically, it should/will be able to bolt up in the A33 chassis.

The 5 speed auto in 6th gen is a complete POS (Unless built :7 )

i wouldn't do it

first one started to go out as i just added bolt ons and was going out ... to put it outta its misery i sprayed the **** outta it

got another one that leaked before it even got to drive ... third one i managed to pop in 2 days LOL

now the 4th one is good after a full build from level10

Omg built CVT+Standalone Transmission controller = Dream

But it'd be hell on a stock motor, always chillin @ 6k rpm on the track.... good lord it'd take a motor build just for that transmission.

Maybe your transmission was just a P.O.S. Kevin007 sprayed the **** outta his car and never had any trans issues

4AT with valve body mod would probably be nice. Somebody on here was selling a valve body with the spring kit installed already.

I imagine you would have to swap the oil pans to 3.0 oil pans, since people doing the 3.5 swap with an auto 3.5 have to swap since the 5at bolt pattern is differently from the 4at.

too bad i threw my TCM out when doing the 5spd conversion :-/

Alright,
As it stands, my current transmission setup involves a modified valve body, and a edge racing 3k stall. Unsure if these items will bolt over into the 5spd....guess ill have to get with someone to find that out, but i definitely would be keeping those, and the larger cooler.

What im looking at doing is bolting in the 5at (Hopefully) with the Suprastick *(If the proper number of solenoids are used)* usint it in standalone mode or going about swapping over the tcm from the 6th gen. The overall goal is to get away from the Auto ECU altogether and get a manual ecu in the car. The can lines as well as tcm codes wont pop in doing this so the standalone route may be best.
I have access to a trans locally for about 150, so im seriously considiering it, but in other news have been told that it wont bolt in (Different bellhousing), if i remember it was AAKShun that told me this :/
hmmmmmm.....

That would remove the pesky 133 limiter, and allow for a top speed of 149, and make it easier to get ahold of a TS ecu unless this other hustle i have working comes through...

The 5spd trans probably has more then 2 solenoids right?

With 2 solenoids, on and off you have 4 combinations thus you can change 4 gears. I don't see how you can change 5 gears with only 4 combinations.

Nissan VQ Transmission Bolt Pattern Reference Chart.

CVT =/= AWD Tranny's =/= 5AT =/= 4AT = 6MT = 5MT = RWD 5AT = RWD 6MT

-Source: Compression Testing @ Work.

You're welcome

Must use matching upper oil pans w/ CVT or 5AT or Others or ETC.

I think Surratt was able to bolt up the 6MT to the CVT upper oil pan but had issues w/ the headers clearing it..... so it still deserves it's own category.

Thought it was you. I would be willing to change the oil pans as well if that would fix thr physical portion of the swap. Solenoids i dont see working on suprastick so manual ecu is out.

Question.

Difference from 03 to 05 could be negated through swapping oil pans? And cps. Correct?perfrct time to do the pump and bolts. Aak is that all thats needed to bolt because thats all im tracking
