can you swap a 1997 maxima engine into a 2003 maxima

I have a 1997 Maxima with body damage (hit and run in Chicago!) and my father has a 2003 Maxima thats engine just went out. Can I take my 3.0 engine and put it in his 2003 Maxima that has the factory 3.5?

We are looking for a temporary solution here and curious if this is possible and how much money we are looking at to make this happen?

I understand there are adjustments that would have to be made and if someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Here's the deal. He keeps his cars in incredible condition. The car looks brand new and they are only offering a couple hundred to scrap it. He could part the car out or wholesale it for a couple thousand but doesnt have time.

My body on my 97 took damage when it was hit and ran, but my engine still runs great.

If it will cost less than $2,000 to put my engine in his car he will so it will buy him 6mos to look for a car instead of having to rush to buy one now (he's on the road 80% of the week driving/outside sales so he needs a car now).

Once he finds a right priced car he'll just give me the 2003 Maxima as I live in Chicago and only put 3500mi/yr on my car now.

No it wont... Ok let explain myself..

The engine will fit? Yes
The harness is about the same? No
The computers? No
If i swap the harness, ECU, etc? Waste of time..

Best bet, junkyard 3.5, one long day with picnic, friends helping out and would be running on no time! Good luck!
