VQ35HR cams w/DE VTC cam gears?
Sorrry if its been asked b4, but I searched and cant find anything. Anyone know if and engine with vq35HR cams can run with the vq35DE VTC cam gears? And if so, Would it need an HR ecu, or will a DE ecu work also? I think that the DE and HR cams are opposite as far as timing goes, the HR is like the vq30de.

The older intake cam gears have 40 degrees of travel, the HR style have 50. So if you are running 3.5 timing get the HR style. IMO
I beleive they are similar, but with the IVT solenoid in a different location there might be some cam gear differences.

So in short, If I used HR style cam gears, then I would need different main caps/timing covers due to the solenoids?

If so thats pretty much a 09 swap, using HR heads would need a 09 lower, then a 09 upper intake. and also would need a 09 timing cover, or a 07 altima if no EVT wanted.

Yea, unless he is using 3.0 timing.....i dont think this will work.

Unless what he is asking is there a difference between where the CPS sensor reads. The answer is no with 3.0 timing because the CPS reads off the cam gear not the end of the camshaft.
Do you have pics of your setup? Because this question is making me think what you did is put the cam spacers on then reused all the VQ35 timing stuff which is wrong.

It's probably a bad idea. Just asking about what you guys think.

I read in your thread about how with the variable exhaust timing really had graet gains over without variable exhaust timing.
I know that simply keeping the VTC variable out the whole equation and just use 3.0 timing with a tune is a bit easier, but as they say when in rome..
