How much tuning is needed with an SSIM?

Hey guys, I plan on going to the track in the next week or two....the problem is I don't have much time to get the car ready other than just putting some tires on it. I currently have a 3.5 in my 98 maxima. It is some what tuned with a steady a/f mix. I have an SSIM that can be installed and I would like to put it on before I go to the track, but I don't think I will have time to get by the dyno before I go. I can work out little hicups on the street but if it requires a ton of extra tuning then I will probably just leave the stock intake manifold on the car. I'm all ears, please let me know what your experience has been, thanks.

*** Also, when I say "tuning" I am only talking about a/f since I only have a VAFCII for tuning***

*edit* Here is a link to my dyno, as you can see with my current tune I am running rich after 6k (so my thinking is I already have enough fuel dumping up top for the additional air I may gain from the SSIM.

^^ Agreed...unless you're changing MAF to a larger size and/or larger TB I wouldn't worry much about tuning. You might run a little more rich (or safer when looking at your dyno) but at least your top end will benefit from the SSIM.

Thanks....yeah I have all of the stuff to run larger intake piping and MAF but I think I am going to skip that stuff and just boost the car again.

The SSIM would make you run more rich? I would think the opposite since I assume it can flow more air up top.

Good point...always thought mine ran more rich with it. I just assumed the MAF noticed more air being pulled so it dumped more fuel to compensate.

I need to get my damn wideband in and find out for sure...sorry for the possibly misleading info.

how much MPH did you or JP pick up from doing a SSIM? I just scheduled my dyno for 10/5/12....that's the day I will be going to the track as well. Just need to make time this weekend to put it on.

Not much peak but u would probably notice a 20 or more whp difference at redline over the stock manifold

I swapped the manifold on this weekend, and the car started

I have not driven it yet, I have not had time, but I plan to drive it tomorrow. I will see what my wideband has to say, and I will be hitting the dyno this friday before I go to the track. I will report back.
