2000 Maxima 3.5 Swap Thread

238k miles i blew head gaskets on my 3.0..its supercharged @ 10psi, so got a really good deal on a 2004 Maxima motor with 78xxx Miles. But reading all these stickies their from 10 years ago so none of the pictures even show up Figured Id start this thread to see if anybody could help me through out my swap.

As of right now i have a couple questions.

1- do you guys just bolt in the cam gear sensors on head and leave them their not plugged in since 3.0 timing reading off cam gear iteself?

2-Anybody have a link to where i get the cam gear spacers? And possibly aa write up with working pics on this?

3-Should i use my 00 intake manifold or the mevi?

Thanks guys

1. Yes or you'll be leakin da oilz.

2. It's very self explanitory, hell if you're keeping the S/C you could just use 3.0 intake cams and 3.5 exhaust cams, if you can not get in contact with Stephen Max anymore.

3. Jesus christ lord 1/2 mercy, don't ever fathom the idea. Stop. Every time you think of doing that, a little puppy gets ran over in SE Houston.

Thats what i was looking for but couldnt find it. Thanks!

Ps trav, you have a lot of learning to do. Words do not do justice to how much you need to understand about general tuning.
Not an insult, just a reality check.

These guys are no help at all but in my opinion all the 3.5's suck I wouldn't waste your time unless you are building a 3.5 and i hope you don't plan on boosting the 3.5 stock

If your doing a 3.5 swap into your 2000 maxima your going to need to use the 3.0 timing equipment. If you want to use the 3.5 cams with your swap your going to need cam spacers which can be found at www.jimwolftechnology.com and you will have to drill intake cams 180° from where the stock dowel pin hole is and use the stock dowel in the hole you drilled I believe the hole to be made is a 6mm hole and or if you want to save money you can just use the stock cams from your 3.0

Their is no 3.5 that won't burn oil,ur best bet is to find something with very low miles like under 50k or just the cheapest motor u can find or a longblock and invest in pistons,ARP rod bolts if u can't afford rods, revup oil pump ,acl bearings,HR headgasket,ARP head bolts.and if u want upgraded cams and springs cheapest would be some revup cams and springs.since ur boosting this would be ur best route or motor may last less than a 3.0.
When it comes to cam adapters setting up the adapters to ur optimum power level they get setup different depending NA or boost.
Let's not forget new timing, water pump and all new seals.
Reason for getting new or better used parts is because ur gonna be taking apart half of the motorso u might as well.

yeah changed my entire mind already. swapin another 3.0 in and gonna run 14psi on it. its the easiest route and seems like it will make power more reliably and not brake **** or blowup.

So I guess we can close this thread.
